I never saw superstardom and I remember getting hate for it. Too passive, weak jumper, doesn't move off the ball well, doesn't create good shots for himself, weak handle, surprisingly weak defensively. He has a nice postgame and drives aggressively from time to time. Other than that, meh.
I don't care for the Canadian thing at all.
He's a 20 year old averaging 21 points a game with a TS% of 52.6 and with a USG% of 28... How the hell is that passive? He's had two big baskets here down the stretch. Defensively he holds his opponents at around their shooting percentages so he's not weak at all (-.03 Diff%)... His peak is like 4-5 years away. He's actually pretty impressive.
He floats in and out of games too much... he has large stretches where he's content staying in the corner (mind you not doing anything off the ball). I'm honestly not impressed, most of his defensive numbers are poor and he's one of the worst players in the NBA when it comes to RPM (I think). That's what I'm most disappointed in... Dude allows so many easy blow bys.
I think he'll be solid, but superstardom is a little much. He has a looooooong way to go. Still very young but I see 3-time all star rather than generational talent.
When a guy has a USG% of 28 and you think he floats too much, you're probably suffering from a little confirmation bias. It's just a narrative since he came into the league. He completes more than 28% of his team's possessions when he's on the floor. That's not floating. That's pretty amazing for a 20 year old. Not only that, but he's on a young team that's focused on development. It's not just a Wiggins show, they have to run plays through other guys.
If he's allowing blow bys so much, why do his defensive stats look fine? I mentioned his Diff% stats, he only allows .81PPP on the ball handler in PnRs (27.9% Freq), .55PPP on Roll Man (2.1% Freq), .68PPP in Isolation (10% Freq), .56PPP in Post-Ups (7.7% Freq), .96PPP in Spot Ups (30.8% Freq). He's shaping up to be an excellent man defender it would seem. If RPM is taken seriously, then I think you have to factor in the team effect. I legitimately can't see much wrong with his defensive game based on the stats I'm looking at.
Offensively he's a poor 3pt shooter, but similar to Demar he helps his efficiency by getting to the line. Not sure his handle is too much of an issue if he's managing a 52TS% with a 28USG%. His turnover rate doesn't seem too bad. He's managing to get something done on that end. He's still a child. I don't even think puberty has finished for him yet. His body still needs work. Him and KAT are going to beast this league in a few years. I'm predicting a comfortable superstar status for both of them, in that they'll dominate for their team and lead them to wins and competitiveness.
Anyways, that's my Wiggins love for the night. I think he's actually pretty impressive, even with some holes.
