The potential suspension will depend on what injuries the equipment staffer has and the details of the incident we dont know about. Could be the whole season, could be no suspension at all.

The reason I'm calling it whole season has to do with DeMarcus Cousins. Some years ago, after the Kings lost to the Spurs, Cousins confronted Spurs broadcaster Sean Elliott in a hallway. Many saw it as a threat of violence. NBA suspended Cousins for threatening a broadcaster for two games - no punches were thrown. The Griffin incident is Cousins-Elliott continued times 1000. Not only do you have a punch thrown off the court, you have Griffin confronting the guy again to throw another punch.

There's also the marketability factor. Griffin's highlight reel plays brought the franchise out of the gutter and inspired David Stern to veto the original Chris Paul trade that would have sent him to the Lakers. Stern pretty much assisted the Clippers in marketing Griffin. For this incident to come to light, the NBA will definitely not to market or promote Griffin anytime soon. What he did in punching the equipment staff manager and friend has already caused repercussions within the league. This could become the Kermit Washington incident all over again.

April 16th -- NBA Playoffs 2016 begin

Today is January 26th...after his hand heals and his suspension is lifted it'll be late March, which gives him a couple of weeks to get back into game-shape for the playoffs.

This really isn't that big of a deal...all of this will be forgotten after the first week of April.

This was very discouraging news. I'm waiting to hear more before I draw to any real conclusions. Unfortunately, the more that comes out, the worse it has gotten.

Blake can't afford to be so reckless. Regardless of what may have triggered this incident, it was totally irresponsible. Not only does he suffer, but he has let down his teammates and the organization/fans.

When he does recover from the injury/surgery, he's going to have to own up to his teammates and regain their trust. My hope is that he learns from all of this and that it will be a true wake-up call for him.

I will not write him off. I'm a strong believer in redemption, but I'm deeply disappointed.

we have to make the playoffs first and that is a big if now. this could be a deal breaker for doc and the clips.

At least he can stay in regular shape still since it is a hand injury

Doc is saying 4-6 weeks is not realistic, so if we're saying 6-8 weeks and then whatever the suspension is supposed to be, we're talking about returning first or second week of April, which will give him anywhere from about 4-8 regular season games.

We're 28-13, current 8th seed is 20-24. Let's say Sacramento ends up 42-40, Clippers would have to go 15-26 to beat that record and have 43 wins, so if we assume 21-20 the rest of the way, the Clippers would have 49 wins for the season.

It will be pretty hard to not make the playoffs at this stage.

No Charges Filed Yet

I'm sure Quake already knew this, but I just want to make a point of clarification that I was providing context to his astute comments since he was already aware of the prior incident. It was intended as a reference for the board in general. His follow-up continues to be on the money and seems to be representative of the board sentiment, which I also have to give credit to everyone for holding our athletes and team representatives accountable for their conduct. Are we happy about it? Heck no. We're just taking a sobering and realistic perspective of this unfortunate situation. This is so unlike the Kobe rape situation where practically every Lakers fan came out in immediate defense of their demigod regardless of the heinous act he was accused of. You just know Knicks fans would be similarly myopic in their reactions if something similar happened to Carmelo.

I also got to give props to both CoachD and BlzMwt for their banter. I was generally aware of Canada's dealing with their criminal code in regards to non-citizens but their discussion gave further context and insight into possible repercussions should things escalate further for Griffin. I'm sorry I didn't quote more of your respective comments, but it's a good read on pages 3-4 of this thread should anyone want to review.

In any case and as CoachD stated, charges have not been filed against Blake Griffin over the incident, so there is not a police investigation at this point. Obviously, that does not mean charges will not be filed later, but as of right now, only the NBA will be conducting an investigation with the Clippers cooperative after-the-fact when Doc was supposedly trying to cover up the incident.

Sam Amick, USA Today (1/26/16)
The Toronto Police Service do not have a report of the incident on file, and police are not investigating because a complaint has not been filed, Toronto Police Service media relations officer Jenifferjit Sidhu told USA TODAY Sports in an email.

Appreciate that Ranma, but to be honest though, my first thought in this whole situation was that there had to be more to the story because I didn't think Blake would do something like this. And maybe there is more to the story, but at this point you really have to condemn Griffin for his actions, whether they were drunken, due to a threat, a woman, or perceived insult or whatever. Behaviour like this cannot happen, especially when there are so many variables that come into play from your teammates, to fans, to setting an example for children, sponsorships, future contracts, etc, etc, let alone the legality of the situation. This could seriously derail his career.

As for making the playoffs... the goal really can't be to just make the playoffs because coming in as the 7th or 8th seed would most likely be a quick out. I know we just beat the Spurs, but this Spurs team is different. And obviously we still have many games to go but if the Warriors are still operating at even close to this level, they'll beat us rather quickly. And even though they aren't getting much attention, I think OKC is really underrated and wouldn't want to face them either.

Ideally, you manage to stay in the 4-5 seed range somehow to play either Memphis or Dallas.

Thanks Ramma for the shootouts.

Side note.... I live in Toronto (when I'm not on the road) lol and I haven't heard anyone mention WHICH restaurant this was at.

Did you see a name?

I'm assuming in the downtown core near the arena or west end near airport... but that's thousands of places lol

I ask cuz I'm shocked nobody pulled out a cell phone yelling WORLD STAR!

I haven't seen a name reported anywhere just yet, but it's only a matter of time. I don't particularly care but there seems to be some interest online in finding the exact location. I suspect the restaurant in question doesn't want the attention.
