Eat a dick Yogi.

Good win. It's a shame we lost two games we had no business losing against Western Illinois and UWM. 14-7 with wins against Michigan State and Indiana (and a buzzer beater loss to Maryland) is basically guaranteed a tournament bid.

Big win. Actually might have hope for the tourney now. What a game from Happ.

There's life!

I have nothing to base this on factually, but it has seemed to me that in the past the committee has been somewhat forgiving of early-season losses to teams that got big wins down the stretch. Might be off base there.

Anyways, great W tonight and a big step in the right direction for tourney hopes.

He's been struggling having to be an A or B option on offense, but he's generally hit shots at a decent clip and has hit huge shots.

Something was wrong tonight. That was just awful.

It's almost as if Koenig had a brain injury and lost regular connection with the part of his brain that knows how to play basketball. That's extreme, but I can't recall another player who has funks as deep as I've seen this year. Awkward forced shots, lame passes for turnovers, indecision, trying to be invisible. It's almost like something bad had happened in his personal life and he couldn't concentrate.

Yes, he has moments/games where he contributes but he hasn't been the team stalwart we expected. It's made Gard's job harder. Kudos to him for getting useful guard play from the bench and minimizing the failure.

Koenig almost never shows up versus top 25 teams. The more athletic the opposing guard, the more he shrinks away in games.

Yeah Koenig has been dog poop this year. Really disappointing.

It's not that he shrinks (last night, he did shrink or something was going on with him) - it is more the fact that he just wasn't as good as we thought, especially as an A option. He handles it well, can pass if he's ever in the right spot, and is an excellent shooter. What we've found out is that if he has to be the facilitator - forget about it.

Last year, all he had to do was bring it up the court and hand it to Kaminsky or Dekker. If the ball was swung to him he has a great stroke or he might have had a line to drive/dish the ball. Now, the entire lane is stuffed due to nobody being able to shoot, and he is being expected to run/create everything.

I guess what I am saying is that I don't think the guy is folding under pressure or something - he just isn't the player we had thought/hoped. He still is an excellent shooter and generally is good at at least not turning it over/ball-handling.

Seriously, are you guys already forgetting the Michigan State game? The dude can score in the right situation and generally comes to play/hits massively clutch shots. He's just not a creator, and that was sadly a terrible development for a team that needed it so badly.

Koenig could really use another three point shooter out there. Too bad about Prtizl's injury. I guess he can really shoot. Been nice to see if that would have made a difference.

I mean, he dropped like 28 vs MSU a week or so back didn't he? Played great in both tournament runs, especially last year. Sinking clutch FTs and shots throughout. Yea he's been a huge disappointment this year but it seems pretty off base to say this.

I'd have to disagree with that. Howard Moore flamed out of UIC pretty quickly [please note the usage of "flame" and recognize UIC's nickname is the Flames] and wasn't much of a recruiter. It was odd that the native Chicagoan was outmatched so many times as UW's point man on a number of high-profile Windy City prepsters. While recruiting is an important part of the mix, he appeared overwhelmed in game situations when he was at UIC and he wasn't much of a developer of talent. The problem with blanket statements is that the proclaimer overlooks the smudges on an otherwise impressive record. It might behoove you to consider what you type before you lay fingers to keypads imo.

I suppose you could have been making an outrageous position in order to gain some wayward chuckles, but if that is indeed the case, I'd say "Keep swinging, slugger. One day you'll get a hit."

I wouldn't mind Gard getting the job though. None of the other coaches rumored are that great to me.

In 9 games Gard is 5-4 with wins over Michigan State and Indiana. He has a buzzer beating loss to Maryland, a 6 point loss to Purdue and a 1 point loss to Indiana. All ranked teams.

It's a young team and I think Gard has done a pretty good job overall since he took over.

I agree, I've really warmed up to Gard. I was never cold on him, but I was also not sold. He's done a very good job. I also have liked his rotations better thus far with increased usage of Illikanen and Hill.
