Hindsight: Would you take someone other than Stanimal?

Post#1 » by Laimbeer » Wed Jan 27, 2016 10:40 am

Knowing what we do now, would you take someone else who was still available at that pick?
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

No. I would've tried like crazy to trade up for Porzingis tho. I have a feeling SVG might of tried to do that.

Devin Booker. But KCP is having a helluva January. But Booker is silky smooth shooter in what is becoming a skill league. Johnson plays more bully ball, or will at his peak given his size, and don't know how that will play or be allowed in the new NBA.

Given what we know now though - if only we had the ability of hindsight, I'd definitely trade up for Porzingis. #8 and Jackson or whoever the Knicks would have wanted. Don't think we could have got into the Top 3 without offering up Dre.

I don't think so. Booker would've been nice too, but I'm happier to take the kid who seemed very interested in playing for this team and has shows flashes of being a good scorer, along with the willingness to play strong D. He makes alotta mistakes, but I haven't been disappointed with his effort yet. I'll take it for a 19 year old kid.

Winslow would have killed it in Detroit! Just Joking!!! Regardless, I like what I see from Myles Turner and Bobby Portis. Will be interesting to see who ends up the better player in the end. I feel it will be Stanley. I have liked his character since before draft day.

Booker really wanted to play here as well - and is from here - and is months younger than Stanley.

The only thing that matters to me there is the bolded. I'm not patriotic at all, lol. And both were born in 96 I think, years is all I look at.

I said that Booker would have been nice too. I would've taken either one (not a Winslow fan at all), but I'm more than happy with Johnson. I like Booker, but I question his defense. Would love to steal him though.

No. He's (hopefully) going to be exactly what the team needs in terms of emotional leadership. KCP plays hard, but he's not vocal. SJ brings the energy every night and eventually is going to stamp his personality on the team.

I was a Winslow fan on draft night but have come around on Stanley Johnson. I remember being pretty impressed with Devin Booker as well. If we needed a Shooting guard I would probably re-draft Booker but I'm pretty confident we have our SGOTF in KCP.

Nope... Devin Booker is nice but I like KCP... and I like defense.

Anthony Towns
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.

Nope, Stanley was the best pick for us and he will be a big part of this teams future.

the game keeps changing every day. Steph Curry's ball is not replicable, for example.
