We are hoping the GM gets fired. This team isn't going anywhere with EG at the helm unless they catch lightning in a bottle (KD to DC).

I do think that playing 4 out made sense - particularly with the fact that Nene couldn't be relied upon to play both PF and backup C all season. Given our personnel, committing to small ball made sense.

Pace was about the same. They played about 1 possession per 48 minutes faster than their regular season pace -- going from average (well 0.2 possessions per 48 below average) to average (well, 0.2 possessions per 48 faster than average).

You have a point about going small once Grunfeld handcuffed the team by bringing in a SF to play PF and leaving the team shorthanded among bigs.

I think a significant factor has been the improvement of the East and decline of the West. The Wizards based on differential last season would be projected to win 43 games in a very weak conference. The Utah Jazz had a better SRS(differential with strenght of schedule adjustment) - but only won 38 games in the West - which is what the Wizards are on pace for this season.
