Re: Ben Simmons
Ben post game yesterday after asked why he doesn't shoot outside more said that he feels he can get his points inside and that if he can't get it going inside, he might start looking for his jump shot. He also qualified that by saying only if he couldn't get his teammates a good shot.
That doesn't make him a good shooter by any stretch but if you were in LSUs position, I doubt you'd be chucking it up to benefit your draft position when the aim is to win the game. Of course, shooting more would probably help them win more so..
Anyway, it was only 3 shots but they did look pretty smooth as far as I could see.

Said this about 5 pages ago and nobody wanted to agree....
Since his 4th or 5th game it become pretty clear he wasn't shooting out of choice not out of fear. People want him to shoot solely so they can scout him which is both selfish and unfair to Simmons.
His jumper is far from developed but he's certainly not hiding it in my mind, he's making the best decisions for the team, which happens to be scoring inside and drawing fouls.

Re: Ben Simmons
I agree that his focus should be scoring on the inside since he overpowers guys at this level and has great touch. Still, it's in his best interest, as well as the team's best interest, for him to have a serviceable jumper. If he could hit a few jump shots per game, that would open it up even more for him to score and create off the dribble.

Re: Ben Simmons
Ben's argument is nonsense - only someone lying or someone with low BB IQ would say this.
Passing up wide open shots is a terrible BB play, and simply results in defenders sagging way off him and clogging the paint, resulting in lower percentage and more contested shots for everyone on his team, him included.
Since he has the reputation of a high IQ player, that leads me to the conclusion that he's lying.

You know you're a bad shooter when you can count the number of jumpers hes made with your fingers more than halfway through the season
Good thing he doesnt need a good jumper, just size and speed and great passing vision

Ben Simmons
Heh, ok
Edit* I think I've seen it all now. I really don't get it. He's been accused of being everything from a stiff, unathletic, slow, terrible shooter with irreparable form, weak, overrated, no upside and a liar now.

Sorry, that's low BB IQ, not high BB IQ.
unless he totally stinks at shooting, in which case his Kobe work ethic thing can't be true.
High bball iq, smart enough to know his jumper isnt his strong suit and he would be best served getting a better look or one for a teammate.

The first quote from myself is two weeks old and it is exactly what Ben said in his recent post game which you are calling him a liar for saying. You probably are going to continue with your warped view and disregard this but your stance is wrong and everything he has done and said is legit and makes perfect sense.

Re: Ben Simmons
I would bet my bottom dollar that Simmons improves his jumper to a point where the defence won't be able to sag off of him.
If he becomes even slightly better then average jump shooter then he will be the NBA's number 1 player for a very long time.
He is THAT good.

The stiff and unathletic slow was either trolling or people being dumb .. He's elite in those categories
His shot is awful and needs a makeover.. That's the truth

Problem is that he is not just a poor shooter, he's a none shooter.. His shot off the catch and off the dribble needs a total makeover.. His shot is kind of similar to Julius randle but worse lower body form...
Players in the NBA are going to back off of him and that could ruin his confidence in taking an open jumper..
He just needs to stick to his strengths which is driving to the basket and dishing... He's got an incredible feel for the game.

Hilarious. Simmons needs to adjust to the NBA. HE will probably have a MCW's type of year passing the ball. A lot of Asts and a lot of TOs.

Re: Ben Simmons
Pretty much everyone improves their shot when they get into the NBA. It becomes their job. Plus you have more room to experiment and gain confidence in it during an 82 game regular season. Look a what Leonard did. Aaron Gordon was the same way in college and he has improved greatly since college.
My prediction is he will at the worse become an adequate shooter. If not he still a 6'10 PG. Just surround him with shooters and get out of the way.

The hero Orlando deserves is out there somewhere, Dwight was not the one we needed. So we will hunt for him...

Re: Ben Simmons
That is just NOT true. Lots of guys improve their shots. But few guys who are terrible shooters become good in the hardest league in the world.
This is NOT a done deal. He might be sensational - and that requires he can shoot the ball. No ifs ands and buts about that. He might never get over that hump, and then he still could be very good, but will fall way short of being a top player in the league.

To exaggerate and say 'LeBron doesn't have a jumper right now' is unfair to LeBron, if we're making a comparison to Simmons.
There's a difference between being a sub-par shooter and being a non-shooter. Ben's going to be a talent in this league regardless, but him acquiring a serviceable jumper to keep the defense honest is pretty critical to him becoming a star.

I agree it really needs work but I don't think it needs a total make over. It's mostly his lower body form - as you said, that needs work. He'll have plenty of time to work on it soon. We won't see him make/take many jump shots and before the season is out. I look forward to seeing if there is any improvement during team work outs

Kawhi Leonard didn't have problems shooting and Aaron Gordon still can't shoot - so hardly great examples.
