Orlando Magic rebrand

Post#1 » by axl_c_cool » Tue Jan 26, 2016 11:30 pm

I know this subject has came up over the past few years, but to move away from our obvious problems on the court when and what do you think the Magic need to do as a rebrand. We all know our biggest mistake was moving away from the original logo and pinstripes, these uniforms are ok, (a bit boring for me) and the logo and branding is so corporate!

I personally think this is a new team and era now and the brand reminds me of the 08-12 teams. A bold new logo with strong uniforms that are less bland would be ideal for me. So the questions are,

When/will it happen?

How should it look?

Timing wise this summer or next makes most sense. We need to go to the classics. I am fine with a logo re-working, I had the arched ball and stars. I need it the old school with the stars to the side like my avatar.

Nike takes over NBA apparel in 2017. I imagine most teams will wait until then to re-brand, including us. Zach Lowe mentioned of the possibility regarding the OKC Thunder logo last year.
No team has worse art, top to bottom, and Nike will push for an overhaul once it replaces Adidas as the league’s apparel partner in 2017. Nike and the Thunder are already talking, and the Thunder “haven’t ruled out” a more explicit weather-related secondary mark, Byrnes says.

Bad news: Oklahoma City seems locked into the shield motif and likely won’t replace it with a bison — or anything else. “To some extent, we are committed to the idea we have,” Byrnes says. “But we would not dismiss good feedback, particularly from Nike. We’re open to modernizing the logo, but we don’t have an appetite to overhaul it.”

I don't hate our current jerseys and logo. I actually really like it in a vacuum. But it just wreaks of Dwight Howard. The 90's logo and pinstripe jerseys are beloved universally by sports fans. Given Nike's continued endorsement of Penny Hardaway, I wouldn't be shocked to see them push for the retro look.

I thought I was the only one who it remained of Dwight. Thanks for the info on 2017. I'd like pinstripes with a black stripe down the side of the jersey and shorts with big stars going down

I like the logo. Unless they change it to a mugshot of STUFF they don't need to change it
Favorite Magic players of all time:

2. Andrew Nicholson

I like what we've got. It's not THE BEST, but it's pretty good, and better than a lot of logos/jerseys in the league.

I don't like the idea of changing just because it reminds people of the Dwight era; not only because it was one of the best eras in franchise history, but because we shouldn't be just changing things up every 5-10 years (even though historically we have!)

I like our jerseys and branding a lot actually and I remember when they first came out and Dwight, Rashard and I think Nick Anderson wore the older gen versions at an unveiling off Church street and I remember seeing them and was blown away by how awesome they were. However after the then Bobcats copied us and Dwight left I can see how they have lost their luster, they got 8 baby momma having Dwight stank all over them. I would be happy with these for a few more years as long as they drop the pride jersey, they uggo.
