Where's all the "Drummond is finished" people at? He's still a kid. It's a process. Cheers to whoever didn't quit on the kid.

I just want him to start protecting the paint better and make his FTs. He's still my favorite player but he's our franchise player and we go as far as he takes us so he is held to a higher standard. He can put up big numbers just showing up with his size and athleticism but it's the defense he's gotta start to focus on now.

If you want him to protect the paint then you need to want Jackson to control opposing PG's on the perimeter. Thats where it all starts.

For sure, Reggie isn't making it easy forcing Dre to have to go help side constantly but even 1 on 1 he's giving up way too much down there. He is 22 and he will get there but he should still be doing more with his wingspan and athleticism down there.

He is 22 and is now at his peak and is who he is. A lazy player and a loser basketball player.

You know I honestly started laughing typing that. I just don't know how some people can view our players with such contempt when they are all so young and especially Drummond. This kid (yes he is still a kid) is putting up historical games on a whim (there is a killer stat in Pistons history of players with 15 points and 15 rebound games and Andre is on the verge of passing Laimbeer ALREADY. Think about that for a moment.) And it seems some don't appreciate it. Will Drummond ever become a monster rim protector? I don't know but what you do is pair him with a shot-blocker and watch that rim become locked down.

Stan should really just protect certain players in a trade and do everything he can to land a Portis type of player.

That is the key for the Pistons to really become dominant.

Mark my words. When that happens the Pistons become basically unbeatable.

It's not about who starts; it's about who finishes. And, for the FIRST TIME, that's the lineup SVG used to close the game. That's very, VERY telling.

nice post

A few other thoughts from tonight —

• Welcome back, Dre. Getting lost in your own head can be a dark and scary place; way to shake off a bad stretch and literally get back into the game.

• Isiah Thomas was one of the greatest clutch players in NBA history. Chauncey Billups absolutely earned his nickname "Mr. Big Shot." And now Reggie Jackson is continuing in that tradition and is an utter stone cold KILLER in the 4th quarter when the game is on the line. Enjoy it and recognize how lucky we are as Piston fans to enjoy that lineage!

while we tend to focus on RJ's offense, its his defense that really has been the difference maker. He's fighting over more screens and making a effort to get the ball out of play makers hands. His clutch factor is just a bonus

• Back to Stanley — forget about minutes or starting for a moment, 'cuz the young man is still two years away from buying beer legally. Once he consistently plays like he did tonight every night, this team won't just take a step forward, they'll take a leap. Did anyone else notice that, when the bench was in, the rebounders were looking to outlet the ball to HIM rather than Jennings? He just has the ability to make great things happen, for himself and for his teammates, on both ends of the floor. He can't do it every night yet because he's just too young, but if he ever reaches the point where he's our 3rd best player on the court every game, we're gonna be scary 'cuz the game is gonna look easy for us.

In addition, i think its more a product of coaching and practice. I am sure after film review they've seen that SJ has been consistent enough in the open court to start looking for him. SJ with a head of steam is so hard to stop, he's adjusted to what defenses are doing

Stanley Johnson had a great game today, even if it was against the sixers. I'm extremely excited to have him and KCP as our starting wings going forward, they're both extremely active, hard-working guys, underrated athletically and bring something different to the table.

I don't think a lot of people realize how special it is that a rookie wing player is trusted to be the pick and roll ball handler in an offense that has a competent PG (usually Jennings). He might not be dynamite at it yet but the fact that the team entrusts him to run the offense at times is huge tell for me that his potential as a playmaker is sky-high.

Okay how many times has this happened now? Should be a flagrant foul, that's not a "basketball play".
What if Drummond gets injured while someone is jumping on his back?

Dre showed improved effort this game. All I want to see on the court. Games where things aren't going your way is totally understandable. Low effort is not. For today, he is Dre, not Larry Sanders 2.0

He's the truth, he's the leader of the team.

That's video didn't even include his go ahead assist to Reggie for the 3 - 91-88.
That won the game
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.

^ He had another assist that, while it wasn't a game winner, may have been an even better pass. I forget exactly when it was (I think sometime in the 2nd half), but he ran the high P&R with Baynes, Baynes dove to the hoop, and Stanley threw a perfect bounce pass between and below the two defenders that hit him in stride for a dunk. Most PGs don't even make that pass, let alone 19-year-old rookie SFs!

Some games you can see Stanley running the game like the way kobe used to and he's just brilliant. Other games he looks every bit a rookie and I cringe when he takes a shot.

It's weird with him. One thing is for sure though I absolutely get that "feeling" that he is really going to be special when he puts it altogether one day. Size strength and smarts are really formidable in the NBA. Stanley had all three.
