It's time to pull a Portland and let Al Horford walk
This team is not winning with him as a cornerstone piece! So it's time to trade everyone and rebuild, including letting Al Horford go.

Even if the hawks did decide to blow it up and rebuild I don't trust that they would have the ability to hit on any of their selections in the draft. We just don't know how to draft and you kind of need to know how to do that if you plan on going through a rebuild.

Portland had Lillard to turn the team over to. Who do the Hawks have of that caliber.

I agree with that 100%. We are not winning even the East as long as Lebron is around. I've been saying that for years, if Horford is our best player and he is, we are never going to win big. He lacks the desire to be great and the physical tools to dominate. He's fundamentally sounded though and will make any team better. We should trade both him and Teague. There's absolute no way you give Horford a max contract, it would be a HUGE mistake.
GO HAWKS.

Horford is a guy who's never been skilled enough to play PF yet not committed enough to play C. The Splitter trade was shrewd enough in that it protected against Millsap leaving last season or Horford leaving this season even if he hasn't lived up to being the player that he was in San Antonio.

Splitter hasn't played enough yet to determine which the best combination is. I know if we are going economical, Horford and/or Teague are gone.
I think we should keep Teague because he does give Cleveland a problem and we have him for another year on a terrific deal. Horford is only good for us the rest of this season and I have been for moving our guys on this roster, but I'd keep what we have to try and get the most out of what we have for this year's playoffs. If we're healthy, can we beat LeBron? We should be able to get to the ECF if CLE is on the other side.
What I do know is Boston doesn't have ANYTHING that we can use. Let Ainge use those draft picks because our draft luck has been beyond mediocre. The only reason to take draft picks is to try and find a guy who you take a risk on with a high upside and very young. But you're paying him for 2-3 useless years as well and Boston will not be worse if we give up Al. You never deal with Boston and bring them back to respectability.

If we can get ainge to give us Brooklyn's top four pick for Horford...
Also, I read an interesting idea about Teague for DWill and Justin Anderson

There is nothing interesting about that idea for the Hawks.

DWill would be a better mentor to Dennis than Teague. Throw in a pick as well, and it wouldn't be a horrible deal. Could grab Anderson and make him into a solid guy for us.

Does DWill strike you as the "mentor" type. Being an older player doesn't mean mentor.

Yeah, and that trade would be made worse by the fact that we declined to pursue both of those players just last summer.
Meaning, if we really wanted either...we could have acquired them without it costing us Jeff Teague.
At this point...I think it's most beneficial to acquire the best player/asset available for Teague. Regardless of position. And we probably need to combine assets to get maximum value.
(Six months of) Horford + (18 months of) Teague + Minnesota pick is a solid haul for any team in need of productive vets for a playoff run.

A mentor can come in many forms. You don't have to be someone that will literally sit down and teach you. Just by simply giving someone a visual of how a PG should run an offense would be useful. At the end of the day, I wouldn't do the deal anyway. I just see some justification even if it is miniscule.
