Should we pick up Ilyosova's contract for next season?

Post#1 » by Laimbeer » Sat Jan 30, 2016 1:08 pm

He has $8.4M coming, unless we buy him out for 400k.

Note that the decision must be made before free agency or the draft.

Let's assume we don't make any other moves between now and decision day (which I understand to be June 30.)
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

ive said since we traded for him, we need to let him go at seasons end. maybe give him a promise we can sign him back(if thats allowed), but to me, that money is more valuable.

I'm really hoping to replace him with Anderson. I've just never seen anything like it the way Ersan cannot stop pump faking.

Yes, but as trade bait. It's a good contract given the sky rocketing cap. Decision on it has to be made by June 30th, so we can't buy him out and then strike out in free agency. So pick it up and if we land a bigger free agent target, they trade him.

Stan needs to have Bob Newhart speak with Ersan about his pump-faking disorder

Ilyasovas deal is going to look really good compared to the ridiculous contracts that are going to be handed out this offseason.
I'm higher on him than most here, so I'm pretty happy with him. The pump fakes drive me insane, but overall he's a good addition. I'm not a fan of Anderson, so i'd rather SVG kept ersan.

Depends on what the free agent market looks like when we get there. Odds are the answer is yes.

This. If Ilyasova's $8.4 million was a hindrance to targeting one of the bigger free agents (like Horford) then they should buy his contract out for that small amount but it doesn't look like it will be. I don't think the Pistons can afford to not play it safe at this stage in the rebuild.

Josh McRoberts could be a sleeper trade target. He's kind of like a poor man's Draymond in terms of skill set. Tough defender/hustle guy, great passer, and can make the open 3. Cap friendly contract too, and because he's playing crappy this year he could possibly be had for nothing in a salary dump deal. Problem is we'd have to trade Ersan or AT to make room, which Stan probably wont do.

Ersan blows but we would probably have to keep him for insurance since we don't know if a upgrade is available. If we did get a upgrade try and trade him, you never know what you can get maybe a first from a contender or something.

I don't think we'll land any big heavy weights and or have a good chance of losing out on the sweepstakes even though Horford is good enough for our currently weak PF spot.

What will likely end up happening is, we'll probably land a smaller and much more lesser target by building up the roster as is. I don't see a big blockbuster trade nor a signing so far.

Jeff Bower and I have decided to pick up his contract for next season. Expiring contract for a player that fits our system.

it's affordable, ilyasova is a good player and it still gives the pistons flexibility (as it would only be for one year).

I would be shocked if they didn't pick up his contract, even if they expected him to come off the bench or have a lesser role.

only way im fine with keeping ersan is if the front office feels our best option is ryan anderson. id rather keep ersan at $8M than sign ryno to $18M per

Even tho I'm not a big fan of Ryan Anderson if he is our only option and willing to sign I do it, he is a much better offensive player than Ersan it would be probably be worth it. Trade Ersan and sign Tolliver back at 4 to 5 mil/yr I could deal with that.
