McBob/Stat's IQ for bigs proving to be useful. At the beginning of the season I was hoping there would be minutes for both of them here before we found out that playing them together might be a disastee. It'd be nice if they could still get minutes when Whiteside returns but that would prolly mean less Bosh or less Whiteside or both

For some reason he seems to be one of the few who automatically thrived in our system, spite of the fact he came in when our chemistry was worse and players were still adapting to each other, the team and the system.

Uncle Beno and Grandpa Amare are living proof of the importance of BB IQ.

Rio and Whiteside are much younger, more athletic, bigger, and should on paper always be the better choice to put on the court.

But in real life, the corpse of Amare (he used to be SO MUCH more then this) is making our offense much smoother then Whiteside usually does. Amare moves the ball, gives full body good screens, waits in the right places, and doesn't turn the ball over or takes bad shots. Beno, while slow and small, is making our offense run better then Rio usually did. He makes the right plays, doesn't force, gets guys involved in the spots they should, and takes advantage of openings the defense gives him.

Sometimes being savvy and having high IQ > raw talent and physical tools. That's a big part of why a team like the Spurs are as good as they are.

Rio had a ton of experience too, guys is like 29YO been to a ton of playoffs games. Still not a smart player.
Winslow is a 19 YO rook, looks X10 times smarter then 26Yo Whiteside that played in a bunch of teams over the world/Dleague/with us.

That's a concern I have with Whiteside. Skills improve, BB IQ...usually not so much.

Tbh if Whiteside just learns how to set better screens he could mask a lot of whatever the other is with his production, most big men (players) have their drawbacks. Deandre Jordan was a poor screener too and picked up his mechanics, I don't think it'd be too difficult for Hassan. I don't remember the last big to fail for not learning to set screens or kick the ball out, and I believe he's been trying to do both... idk, I'd give it some time

Sometimes is the key word there Rex. The physical difference between Beno and Rio vs Stat and Hassan are very different. Hassan is and athletic 7 footer with a 9'6" standing reach. If he was smart he'd be a generational talent, stuff like that is what makes Shaq so unbelievably special.

Sometimes you gotta take what you can get. Hassan has a natural feel for shot blocking, take that and build on it rather than harping on his inability to pass.

Besides getting up a lot of shots, he says he analyzes film of his shot, and he already has a plan for this summer, not only to work on his distance shooting but also his ball-handling “so we can get better spacing.”

“I know I’m a capable shooter; I shot 41 percent on threes [with a shorter three-point line at Duke],” he said, adding he’s receptive to subtle technique tweaks that Heat coaches have suggested. “But obviously, I’m not consistent enough.
