why not? He might be short for a SG in today's standards, but his 6'8 wingspan makes up for it. Exum and Smart went 5&6 in what might be the deeper draft class. Oladipo went #2. Hield has NBA range and shooting at an elite rate. He's shown nice slashing ability and can cut. I think there's been a small resurgence of strong SG play where guys like KCP, Beal, and McCollum are needed to keep up in this new 3 point NBA era. Look at the mess Memphis is without one.

Oladipo, Exum, McCollum and Smart can all play the point or at least spot minutes at the point. Hield can drive against college guards but he wont be able to drive against NBA wing players. He doesnt have the handle or the athleticism to make up for the lack of handle. Beal, Oladipo, Smart and KCP are all superior athletes and defenders. Hield doesnt have the upside of any of those guys you just mentioned. Hield is going to be basically a run around screen and catch and shoot player at the next level

He showcased a good variety of ways to score today. Started off slow so he took it to the rim in the 1st half, now he's a flamethrower up to 7-14 from 3 leading a big comeback. Great ball game with 4 min left to go.

EDIT: Crazy tough shot on his 8th 3!

He's a great college player don't get me wrong. There is a massive difference between doing it on the college level and the NBA level. The difference is at the NBA level he won't be able to take it to the rim. He doesn't have the handle or athleticism to get to it consistently.

I think someone made the Jodie Meeks comparison. I can see a better version of Jodie with him.

Ya I like the Meeks and Wayne Ellington comparison

I think he's a better player than Ellington. He's probably a better overall player than Meeks was too, but only time will tell what he can translate to the next level.

Meeks has T-rex arms, which effect his ability to defend in the NBA. (6'4" with a 6'4.5 inch wingspan)
Ellington is 6'5" with a 6'6 inch wingspan.

Hield is 6'4 with a 6'8.5" wingspan. Doesn't necessarily make him a netter defender, but its a trait/measurable thats usually apart of decent NBA defenders and helps make up for his average height of 6'4" for an NBA wing.

Agree that he's not worth a top 5 pick. Would be a pretty steep reach. I personally prefer Denzel Valentine as a upperclassmen wing prospect to target in the mid/late 1st. I wouldn't hate picking up Hield at all because if he can defend at the next level, his shooting becomes a huge asset and lord knows we need talent at the 2 spot...but it would have to be w/ the MIA/OKC pick.

if he can figure out a post game he can be wes matthews

normally that is not worth a top 5 pick, but this draft class is awful after the top 2. i could see it.

I agree he's a better player than both. I was just speaking of size, athletism and style of play. He's pretty close Ellington when it comes to those things. I do agree he is a better player though

Hield would be a great fit her IMO. He can shoot, we need shooters.

But at what cost, Miami's pick? Maybe. Our own or Lakers pick? No way.

The one thing beside his unreal shooting streak this season is his so-called work ethic, something we can't judge since we don't see him train. I'm somewhat reluctant, not a great defender, no elite body, not the best ball-iq, etc. I think he is a great college player, just like Denzel Valentine for example.

Sick pass, and done so effortlessly. 8-)

If we end up getting him, we will need athlete wings to run the break with him.

Some observations tonight,
Ben Simmons looks bored out there. He makes everything look effortless. Definitely my top guy.

Jamal Murray is going to be a good guard in the pros. I would not be mad if we ended up with him.

Monte Morris from Iowa State totally looks like a Hinkie pick in the second round. His assist to turnover ratio is insanely awesome.

How ironic is it that we've been just grilled for going big in all 4 lottery picks thus far and the year that we could possibly have 4 picks and 3 in the lottery comes around and the draft is incredibly wing heavy. If we come away from the first round with 2 wings and a guard will everyone still think we were foolish for taking all bigs?

The Lakers better hope the Sixers get their pick this year and not next year.

I really think the Lakers get DeRozan and Whiteside.

One other guy who's been helping his stock lately and could be in play for the Heat pick is Cat Barber from N.C. State. Probably the fastest player at the college level.

Yeah, no. Derozan isn't going to a bottom 3 team after being on a top 6 team. Whiteside is a different story.

Ben Simmons is Magic all over again. He's gotta be the 1 on offense.
"I don’t wanna be Jordan, I don’t wanna be Magic, I don’t wanna be Bird or Isiah. I don’t wanna be any of those guys. When my career’s over, I''m gonna look in the mirror and say I did it my way.”- Allen Iverson

I really want to pick up a second rounder and get Shawn Long. Kid reminds me of Millsap when he was at Louisiana Tech.

Would be a nice rebounder off the bench for a team that is sorely lacking in that department.

Simmons' shot starts falling. This is going to be an one-man draft.
