ATL send:
Horford
Teague
Some ATL fans will say it's not enough but Horford in particular isn't getting much with 4 months on his deal.
We got Isaiah Thomas for a first round pick and he's on Teague's level but on much better long term money.
What do ATL want from Boston?
Trading Horford and Teague means a rebuild - we need 'quality pieces and unprotected lottery picks to rebuild - not marginal players and low draft picks.
I agree that if you take that path, you're rebuilding- or at least re-tooling. But what do you expect to get for an expiring Horford and a year of Teague?
I'm not trying to start an argument, but I think you guys are overestimating the value of Horford.
As mentioned before, just because you as a fanbase want more than some picks and young 'potential' players, other teams have to be prepared to give those things up.
Put yourself in say, the Celtics front office's shoes.
They like Horford, would love him for a playoff push, but how much do you really want to give up for a guy who is talking about a $149 million dollar contract next year and can go where ever he wants? There's no way anyone is paying him that size contract, so bird rights are useless unless you want to pay him that much- so he can walk to the highest bidder.
If the Hawks didn't have Horford, how much would the Hawks give up for a 3 month rental for a similar 15 point/7 rebound player (who has great defensive impact too) without reassurance he would sign for a reasonable amount?
I understand there are needs/wants from both sides, but I feel like Hawks fans aren't separating the value of Horford signed for at least a year, and a Horford with 4 months left before he expires and then walks to the highest bidder.
Hope that makes sense.
One day Marcus Smart will be defensive player of the year, mark my words.
