Re: Magic(21-26) @ Thunder(37-13)
The boys have been playing as hard as possible for the last week or so and that is nice. When they compete and work hard on the defensive end they have a shot to take most games (not talking Warriors or Spurs of course). That said Skiles certainly does them no favors with end game coaching on offensive or rotations. He is a little better than Jacque Vaughn in my opinion. They just play harder and are better at defense right now.

I almost guarantee that if we were to move Payton to the bench in favor of PG that can defend and shoot we'd be a better team right now. Not to say Elf can't be good, I just don't think he's a starter yet.

He will lose this team like he has everywhere else he's gone. We've already seen stretches of that halfway through year 1.
I especially get a kick out of him being fired on Christmas Eve by the Bulls and none of his players had come to his defense.

Skiles is an average coach. JV was a coach brought in to be fired after a tank. We all know this. The players have gotten better to some degree via the Orlando Magic development program and this is a good thing. Additionally Skiles has brought them a defensive system that works in spurts if you commit to it. You still will not beat talented teams but you will be....average. My point is in crunch time I really cannot say that Skiles has any more mastery than Vaughn did when it comes down to rotations, play calling, or schematics in the crunch when you need him. They both are below average offensively. That is my point. If we don't win via defense we will not ever win a crunch game against someone with talent.

Don't buy into the media hype. It's just BSPN getting ratings just like the Blake Griffin trade scenarios going on right now.
Wasn't it reported by Woj aka Yahoo?
TBH, it's been a whirlwind of reports between KD and Griffin in the last few days. Can't keep up. So I stop trying.

Considering the fact that we have almost zero two-way players (Oladipo and Tobias are close) I think we'd be better if we put a player who could defend and shoot at any position.

No we haven't. Weve seen fans think that's what they know is happening. All that doesn't change the fact that hes a milion times better than Vaughn. And im not using Vaughn as a barometer, Jacque is barely a coach.
I'm fine if Skiles wears out his welcome in a couple of years were still better than we were last year which is what we've actually seen halfway through year one, hes doing his job. If it pisses off some of our players along the way then good, they can go **** themselves, they're weak. anyway.

Didn't KD burn him with a near exact move at the start of the season?
I feel like I remember Harris getting torched on a similar buzzer beater crossover scenario at some point this season.

Skiles is leaps and bounds better at anything and everything related to coaching NBA basketball than Vaughn will ever be and that's probably an understatement.T-DOT KEEZY wrote:Blue_and_Whte wrote:T-DOT KEEZY wrote:The boys have been playing as hard as possible for the last week or so and that is nice. I agree. The opponent FG% Elfrid is giving up is atrocious. Out of guards getting 25 minutes or more he is the worst. I searched for all guards playing 15 minutes or more and there is someone worse, CJ, who is actually the worst of that list. What are the odds that Orlando's two PGs are the worst in those scenarios?

So to spell it out for everyone. I agree that Skile is a better coach than Vaughn. JV was an expendable patsy. That said Skiles sucks at crunch time coaching. How can you not understand what I said.

*sigh*... wrong. You're spreading misleading information. The stat you are looking at is a rim protection stat, not an overall dfg%. Elfrid's overall is better than Chris Paul's.

Not on purpose. Thank you for pointing out that I was looking at rim dFG%. They are the worst in that category for guards as mentioned. As for overall, Payton is in the realm of the likes of Ish Smith and James Harden, or Chris Paul and Mario Hezonja if you like.
While not as dire as I had thought, it's far from great and worse than Fournier even. Payton comes in ranked 95th of players guards guarding at least 5 attempts a game.
