Low risk signing - if he can stay healthy this could be a decent signing. A big IF though

Cleveland connection signings continue. Get us Carrasco and Kluber while you're at it.

I like it. Groundball pitcher that seemed to really be clicking a couple years ago. Still has pretty decent swing and miss stuff, too, especially for a groundballer. Health has been an issue, but if he can stay in one piece I can easily see him as a member of the rotation which so far has one anchor and a handful of #5 starters.

Re: Gavin Floyd?
I wonder if they'll use him out of the bullpen or if he's strictly a starting depth guy?

I would guess a starting depth guy, but he could be bullpen depth if they both feel he just can't hold up as a starter anymore.
Either way he's going to get a minor league contract and try to work his way onto the team. The problem is the guy just can't stay healthy at all.
There's no risk to these kinds of signings. He's not going straight onto your 40-man.

Re: Gavin Floyd?
Solid depth signing so long as not much money is changing hands. Three straight years of injuries doesn't bode well, but if healthy he's a solid piece.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

Where did you come up with those numbers?

With the MLB guarantee, it looks like he'll be on the 25 man (whether as a SP or RP) if he can get through March without his arm falling off. Still not much of a risk for what remains a MLB caliber arm when he can actually stay on the field.

Re: Gavin Floyd?
Floyd's stuff has held up pretty well even if his arm has not, so there's upside. The MLB guarantee isn't a big problem; it's so small that we can easily use him as a longman or simply dump him if it comes to it.

**** your asterisk.

Hm, I must have missed the part where we gave him a major league, guaranteed contract. If that's the case then for sure he'll be in the bullpen. I'm surprised it would be anything more than a minor league deal with a camp invite.

Just another blah move by the blue jays this winter, stop wasting money on nobodies and sign a good player. These guys are making moves as if we are rebuilding not going for the championship

Just another blah post from someone complaining about a perfectly logical and reasonable signing this off-season.
What money are they wasting exactly when he's only making 1 mil? And these are the moves contenders make to add to their depth, not a rebuilding move..

How many mediocre players have been signed this offseason that could of been one major one? He took a team with no holes and created many. He took a championship contender and made it a fringe playoff team with a dirt infield. Save this post in your files, the jays will miss the post season this year.

See the tweet above, but it was announced by the team today. Jenkins was DFA'd to make room.
