McCollum for Monroe?

not a chance IMO, that is a big overpay by POR, Monroe's vale IMO is slightly positive and after half a season the Bucks are already done with him? No thanks, and Blazers need a rim protector, not another defensive sieve

I'm biased, but any GM giving assets for Monroe should probably be out of work. He's talented and productive, but like Jefferson and Kanter, you don't win with him. He's the MCW of power forwards. How many times will he get passed around before teams get the message?
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

This is real solid, but I got a suggestion.

I think the edit here is that Doc won't want a 1st rounder as much as other teams will if he's going all in by trading 27 year old Blake for 31 year old Carmelo. So, I'd make it a 4 teamer and have the pick go to team X and a cheap contributor go the Clippers. Looking at their roster post-trade, they'd probably start Paul-Redick-Melo-Jerebko-DJ with an awful bench of Rivers/Prigioni-Crawford-Wes Johnson-Pierce-Aldrich, so really any decent player gets time there.

Not sure who that would be. I guess it would depend on how Doc rates those bench players and where he thinks the Clips are weakest, and what the market for the 19th pick would be. Maybe Jerebko + Prigioni + 19th pick for Ryan Anderson?

I think the original deal is a solid foundation for a trade,
yet slightly tweaked, Melo and Bradley to the Clips,
the Brooklyn pick, Zeller & Dallas 2016 first to the Knicks,
Griffin and R. Lopez to Boston... and Cap Fillers on all sides to make it official. )

Nets Get: Jeff Teague

Raptors get: Thad young, Chris Mccullough

hawks get: first rounder from toronto, courtney lee

Grizzlies get: Delon wright, pat patterson

why for net: get a PG for the near future on a great deal and add another 4 million to spend in free agency

why for the hawks: move teauge for solid value, open it up for schroeder and add a wing shooter

why for raptors: add thad for the playoff push and add a young rookie stretch 4

why for grizzlies: add a rookie PG to help if conley bolts or to groom under conley. add a stretch for to replace green next year

Not for the Raptors. Thad Young doesn't warrant that kind of return. Otherwise the Nets should just cut the Hawks out of the deal and take the Knicks pick. If they pressed for it I think the Hawks would be able to get a 2016 or 2017 Raptors 1st instead, which has marginally more value than the 2017 Clippers 1st.

teague has more value to us then the knicks pick... given we are rebuilding through free agency.

No he doesn't. Or at least he shouldn't. 1 year of prime Teague vs late lotto pick with 7 years of team control. Free agents aren't going to see the Nets as a more attractive proposition just because they have Teague on the final year of his deal. They will still have to overpay for any of the top guys. And I'm including RFA's like Beal, Barnes, Fournier and Clarkson in that list too.

What I'm saying is you don't need Teague to rebuild through free agency. Rondo will be very attainable for the Nets, especially when the Kings continue to be mismanaged the way they are. Rondo only went to the Kings because he was coming off a terrible spell in Dallas and no one was prepared to pay him. Then there is a certain Brooklyn native called Joakim Noah who is coming off shoulder surgery so he is very attainable too.

he absolutely does, and by a wide margin. yes they have to overpay free agents. and thats exactly what they will do. they'd have teague. lopez and they would throw 2 max contracts out there to someone like derozan or horford or barnes or beal or whomever else. giving them a lineup of someting like:

Teague/derozan/RHJ/Barnes/Lopez

something that would get them to the playoffs for 2-3 years while they get out of the ugly mess king made. which is exactly the direction prokorov and yorkmark want to go in.

rondo would cost us 20 million. teague would cost us 8 million. we could put 2 max salaries between teague and lopez. we couldnt put 2 max salaries between rondo and lopez. thats a very big difference.

the nets would easily take teague over the draft pick.

The one prediction that I will make in regards to the Raptors 2016 1st Rd Pick (NYK Pick) & the Celtics 2016 1st Rd Pick (BKN)... Neither of those picks will be traded anywhere unless a star is coming back in return. Clearly the Celtics/BKN picks need less to be attached to them in return for a star and are probably more open to different positions than what the Raps are looking for (PF)... However, neither team is looking for a package of a couple of good players for those picks, that does not align with either team's agenda

Taking Application: B.Griffin, A.Horford, B.Cousins, P.Millsap

Need Not Apply: Morris, Young, T.Jones, R.Anderson

I do like the Boston/NYK/LAC deal that has been floated around here, that's the closest I've seen for value for all involved I've seen in regards to a big deal getting done

There are a lot of ways to do this, and a lot of free agent variations where you can achieve the same results. If given the choice you go the lotto pick route every time. Rondo won't cost $20m. Kings don't have that much in cap space and they are the only ones desperate enough to offer that much anyway. As much of a mess the Nets are in a mess, the Kings are even messier. He will bolt if he gets a similar offer somewhere else. Whereas Teague's appeal is a lot more wide-ranging. We know that top free agents like DeRozan and Horford won't even look at the Nets, while RFA's like Beal and Barnes will get matched. So instead of using those 2 max slots, you're better off spreading it out and targeting guys that you can get without having to pay the max, getting 3 of them instead of 2. Guys like Rondo, Jennings, Fournier, Bazemore, Deng, Jeff Green, Noah, Sullinger, Zeller, Mozgov. Being able to add a late lotto pick to 3 of those guys plus Young and Lopez (or if they're traded for someone) is a game changer.

The Suns are finally giving Morris the minutes to showcase himself (Hornacek firing no coincidence), so I think GMs around the league will start to remember how talented the better Morris twin is. And with a contract of only $8m per for 3 more years after this season, I expect his value to rise quickly with only 2 weeks left until the trade deadline. The inclusion of a 3&D guy like Tucker makes the overall package worth the Knicks pick. The Raptors have been crying out for quality PF minutes for a long time, and with an extra 3&D guy to buffer Carroll, this would give the Raptors a real shot against the Cavs.

since when are markieff and PJ worth a lottery pick? this has zero chance of happening. the best pick you guys could get is the clippers 2017 and we'd probably replace scola with james johnson or some other wing since we need two PF's

Since the Raptors became interested? Great to see people finally acknowledging PJ Tucker as a real value piece.

http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/240665/Raptors-Interested-In-Trading-For-PJ-Tucker-Markieff-Morris

No one is getting to upgrade their team at two key spots where all they have to give up is a super late 1st. The Raptors have a serious weakness at PF and Morris would help immediately. DeMarre Carroll is injured and aging so Tucker would act as a great insurance policy, and adding another 3&D guy is always a good thing. A move like this makes a ton of sense for the Raptors.

I don't know about all that but I can promise you this: If you want a top 10 unprotected pick from Masai Ujiri, you're going to have to pry it out of his cold, dead hands. You have a snowball's chance in hell of getting the Knicks pick for that package.

However, something can be worked out involving Ross, Johnson, Scola and either one of our picks (not the Knicks one) or one of our prospects and a future second.

Truth is, there just isn't many teams with the need, assets and that are willing to take the risk on Markieff. I think that package is pretty reasonable.

As is, there's no way to finish this. Teague >Young, so what the Hawks will want for Teague will be greater than what anyone would give for Young. BKN would have to find a way to make up that value gap, and I'm doubtful they have the assets to do that.

Prediction: Trey Burke will be traded.

He's been losing minutes fast. Even with Burks injured, his playing time has been down lately and Quin has been finishing games with Neto more and more, or even with Ingles as a de facto PG when Neto got concussion in one of the games. Here are his minutes in the last 7 games: 19, 22, 19, 18, 19, 16, 3.

The time might be near...

Simple deal. Knicks can lose Lance in the offseason no fuss no muss, and still get younger while not losing any star power. The Clippers improve firepower and chemistry to take a title run.

From one team's perspective its reasonable, but from another its unreasonable. Tucker is also a huge part of this package, but people are trying to gloss over him like he's just a throw in and concentrating on Morris. With the combined upgrade Morris and Tucker would give the Raptors specifically, there's no way they get to upgrade their team without having to pay for it. If the Knicks continue to slide and that pick becomes too valuable, maybe the right compromise would to include both the 2017 Clippers 1st and the 2016 Raptors 1st. Only getting one of those picks is unreasonable. For just Tucker? Okay I could see that, but last time I checked the Raptors are in need of a PF first and foremost.

1 pick, a prospect and a second as well as Ross and expiring deals is a fair enough compromise.

Yes Toronto is getting Morris here but let's not kid ourselves - he's been pretty disappointing so far on average and he wants out of Phoenix. So it isn't like Toronto isn't taking any risk here.

Wonder if the surprise deal will be Ainge sending David Lee and Brooklyn's own pick back and maybe canceling the pick swap option in 2017 for Brook Lopez?
