Not a fan of the Rooney rule and not a fan of this rule.
I just think there has got to be better ways to get minorities and women exposure without forcing teams into interviewing them.
And despite them throwing the stats out on how minorities have had more coaching jobs since the Rooney rule I felt that would've trended that way regardless of if the rule was in effect or not.
As more minorities got into coaching they gained experience and perfected their craft and now you have a bigger pool of qualified candidates to choose from and that's why you see more of them getting opportunities.
The issue with women is that running a sports team isn't exactly the same as running other businesses and a lot of key positions in front offices you want football minded people who have a lot of connections to draw on.

Going to sound hypocritical here, but minorities have dominated the game for so long and have had tremendous success when promoted into coaching roles. The Rooney Rule should stand as an embarrassing cold sore against owners that are unwilling to give them a chance.
Now to put women into prominent (Not just talking exclusively executives) positions in the NFL is going to be a whole lot harder. One there isn't a woman in the world that has played a skill position Div-I or in the NFL. It was just TWO weeks ago where the first woman scout was hired. Before we go ahead and use the Rooney Rule due to sex discrimination, let's take in woman candidates are likely far and in between. That's not saying there isn't a deserving woman somewhere out there. Unfortunately it tends to happen this way with new demographics entering a field. Humans can't find a way to see each other as equals.

Personally also not a fan of these types of rules at all in any way. Understand what they are trying to do, but have a tough time believing teams would discriminate against better candidates. They will hire pink, red, green, blue of any gender.. whatever it takes to get more W's.
Why stop there? How about force teams to put one woman on their practice squad?

Maybe this is just dumb but what do you do when eventually women are forced into coaching jobs when it is time to be in the locker room? Locker rooms are not PC places and the NFL is full of alpha types who aren't known for watching what they say or do. I think it will take a hell of a lot to get a lot of players to come around to it. Especially like I_am_1z said, there hasn't been a woman on any team to have experience to draw from. There have been some kickers in college but look how that turned out. I can see some sexual harassment cases in the future and a lot of unwanted attention that will cause. Not saying women should never have a place in the NFL, but there are a lot of obstacles right now.

Can every team interview that woman scout? Or do they have to look for others? What if she declines the interview because she knows she's only there for show? I don't think there'll be so much sexual harassment accusations of players, but rather accusations and organizations for not dealing with those harassments either in a better way or at all. There will be a lot of media articles about what happens and how it should happen and what they should do about it. Teams that are now criticized for not hiring women are going to be criticized for not taking action on star players that misbehave. I guess they could have said that before they hire minorities, but at least there was a pool of minorities to choose from. Objectively there are reasons minorities would be better anyway than just whites.

The Rooney rule should just be left as a stain. Just leave it as a microphone that's blaring how unwilling owners are to at least give minorities (Non-whites) a shot in a game that's dominated by the minority population. Don't want people to associate woman with this rule since it will take away from the issue of race.
Wish we had an idea of a pool size for women candidates. If it's gotten this far, we're likely underestimating the number that are qualified. (?)
