Hawks might blow it up, trade with ATL

Post#1 » by piston1423 » Tue Feb 9, 2016 10:29 pm

If the Hawks do decide to blow it up I would do Jennings, Anthony, Tolliver, Illyasova for Millsap, Korver, Schoder. We get some nice 3 point shooting and ATL gets players becoming FAs or with short contracts that won't hurt their rebuild. Our lineup would be:

Jackson/Schoder
KCP/Hilliard
Johnson/Korver
Millsap/Morris
Drummond/Byanes

Korver looks and plays like his age ever since coming off that elbow surgery. He just hasn't been the same since.

Still, I'd take him as the backup/super sub since we lost Meeks forever. He'd be perfect for our Meeks role. Hell, even start him at the SF position and see how we do. Can't be worse than when Singler or Butler started for us. Move Morris to the 4 if we can't nab Horford or Milsap.

Milsap looks good. Those are big numbers but they won't seem so big after everyone goes crazy in the offseason. That takes care of PF for us :-)

I'm all for this deal. The greedy bastard in me is looking at this and even hoping that there is still some chance we can acquire Horford in free agency after this. We would essentially be taking in ATL's best players to go along with our best guys. I'll even throw in a couple 1st round picks.

If the Hawks are blowing it up, don't you think they might want some rebuilding assets? What in that package is at all enticing to the Hawks? Any number of teams could provide cap relief. Expiring contracts aren't going to get you that sort of talent. Especially with so many teams in the East vying for playoff position - there will be competition for guys like Horford, Millsap and even quality role players like Korver. You are giving up picks, prospects and/or taking on bad salary.

I'd love to get in on it, but teams like Boston are way better suited to make a splash at the deadline.

LOL  The Hawks hang up the phone immediately and probably block your phone number. Are you serious with that trade?
You might be able to get just Korver with that offer... but Millsap and Schroeder too?! NO WAY.

If Atlanta wanted to purely cut salary and get a pick in return we could do:

Jennings + Ilyasova + Meeks 1st round unprotected pick for Milsap + Sefalosha

We dont know if Horford will come to Detroit and Markieff is really the only other option at PF via a trade this season.

Milsap is decent from outside 33% and is only on contract for two more seasons after this year

Reggie / Blake - Dinwiddie
KCP / Sefalosha
Mook / Stanley
Milsap / Tolliver
Drummond / Baynes

Our real weakness would only be at back up PG

Tells me you don't know what they're looking for. They want to trade Teague so Schroeder takes the starting PG position. I'd trade for Millsap, Korver, or Horford. Korver would be sick!! He'd make this team lethal and I'd certainly start him but that means Morris would need to be traded. Millsap would be perfect and so would Horford.

Laughable. Reggie, KCP, and Johnson are the kind of players you'd have to discuss in a deal like this.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Better off going for horford in the offseason. He'll be too expensive in a trade.

I could see a huge ORL/ATL blockbuster if Horford gave every indication he would re-sign there. Teague/Horford is exactly what ORL needs and they have so much young talent there that ATL would be interested in-Payton, Oladipo, Hezonja, Fournier, Gordon, Harris...

ATL would need a center back, but I don't think ORL would trade Vucevic as AL wants to play PF in his next stop. Maybe this is where we could come in - ATL is San Antonio East, maybe they have a soft spot for Aron Baynes - maybe we could leech some value out and score Aaron Gordon some how.

I was leaning towards that for a while but after thinking about it.. Horford will be 30 and is injury prone. Maybe a 3 year contract max but i'm not sure he is the best option. He only shoots 33% from 3 point also.

We have few assets and none you want to sacrifice.

Atlanta is willing to deal their entire team IF someone blows them away. No one is blowing them away for their pieces, which are good but not great. Outside of landing a superstar for all their pieces or some very good draft picks/young players that we can't/aren't willing to sacrifice they are likely to just keep their core and give it one more run in the playoffs this year.

And that trade in the OP is one of the most ridiculously lopsided I've seen in a while. They wouldn't give up 1 of those guys for that pu pu platter.

All the players we are trading them are expirings or team/player options though. ATL would only have "our junk" till seasons end and then could go get whatever players they want in the off season. Plus, what if Jennings plays better for them? They get a starting PG in Jennings if they want to keep him.

I just don't see any trade out there that is going to make that much difference to us this year. I certainly don't want us to trade away any 1st round draft picks. IMO, better to just go into free agency looking to address needs.

go into free agency to see other teams and markets get the better players available.
