What is Jason Smith's value ?

Moderators: ChosenSavior, UCF, Knightro, UCFJayBird, Def Swami, Howard Mass

What kind of contract has Smith earned?

A 1-year, 5.5M contract: he is a journey man and such players should never be locked up to long contracts

A 2 or 3 year deal at 10-15M: this provides a near doubling of his career earnings and protect the Magic from injuries or a large physical decline

70%
A 4 or 5 year deal at 20-30M: this is the defining moment for Smith and he deserves to "get paid." Orlando gains an asset moving forward on a contract that is nearly invisible to the forthcoming tax line.

Making $4.3 million this season. It honestly wouldn't shock me if a team offers him double that on a yearly basis for 2 or 3 years. With Dedmon possibly not being retained, Jason's a pretty big priority.

I think what the Magic have in their favor as far as the negotiations go is that that they went after Jason when few teams wanted to gamble on his health.

The guy has won me over in a big way. I'd like him for 3 years and even a deal of $7m a season would still be great value under the new cap.

He's awesome because you know exactly what you're getting out of him every single night - and those blocks, long 2's and hustle is exactly what we need.

Definitely want to keep him around. I was actually annoyed at the fact that we signed him in the offseason and thought he was a scrub, he's turned into one of my favorite players now, he also rarely makes mistakes and is a decent defender and shotblocker. I'd give him a 2-3 year deal at around 5-7 a year, maybe even 8, but no higher.

So let's all agree that Rob made a great job signing him during the offseason? Everyone was complaining about if before the season.

Would you prefer to have him or KOQ?

Jason Smith by farrrrr. I don't even think O Quinn is currently in rotation and seems as Knicks fans already want to trade him.

I know I just said I thought Smith was a scrub just a post above yours, but even then I thought we were better off with Smith instead of KOQ, that man is a superscrub. Don't like KOQ's ballstopping at all! He used to be a hardworking, hustle player, since his rookie season though, that stopped. . . Now he just holds the ball at the top of the key, pretends he's gonna pass it someone, acts like there's nothing he can do but force a bad jumper or drives it into the paint and gets blocked/misses the layup. I'm glad he's off the team.

My favorite player of the history of basketball would be:
Kobe's mentality
Lebron's athleticism
MJ's clutchnes
Kareem's skyhook
Magic's vision
Curry's 3 point shoot
Jason "all mighty" Smith's mid-long range jumper

Re-signing Smith is also a reason to try and move Frye with expirings coming back.

This way they can essentially use the money committed to Frye next year to re-sign Smith for 2 or 3 years without cutting into the cap space this summer.

Smith is also the only 'hard'/enforcer mentality we have on the team, imo...you gotta have one of those. Finding players that a. can shoot like he can and b. isn't a bit of a mental case, are not easy to come by.
