Payton had the highest 4th quarter FG% for a while in December/January I think, don't know how much it changed or not but he's not bad in the 4th and makes a lot of plays down the stretch. Obviously for a final play or whatever we probably aren't going to him for an open shot, but his vision is going to help. Should just play whoever is hot in that particular game. All I know is I like how the ball moves around when AG and Mario are both in at the end and the athletes we have on the floor.
It's a crapshoot. But AG and Mario together have worked the 2 times they've both closed. Should explore it more in those situations if both are playing good.

Payton cant shoot. His FG% is an aberration but I'm not just talking about that. In addition to teams not having to guard him, he isn't playing defense like we thought he would. I absolutely love the chemistry between AG and Mario and absolutely agree that they need to close out games together...along with Victor whos better with under 6 mins.

He made a similar play to Dipo's towards the end of that game when he inexplicably dribbled into the corner while being double team, made a jump pass at the last second to Victor that lead to a TO. Matter of fact that play was all Hezonjas fault because he put victor into that position in the first place.
I don't think either guy should be in over the other, the only player I don't like late in games is Payton because he cant shoot FT's, cant score, and isn't playing defense like we know he can. I would have Dipo, Mario, Fournier, AG, and Vooch late in games.
When its late in a close game defenses tighten up which is a reason why we tend to settle for long jumpers. This is why we need our best shooter (Mario) in the game. Pair that with the fact that the kid clearly isn't fazed by taking the big shot. I can somewhat agree with your lineup (Dipo, Mario, Fournier, AG, Vooch) but personally I prefer Elf in over Oladipo. The main point though is Hezonja needs to be in the game late for his shooting and his "put the dagger in the opponent" mentality that he clearly has.
Neither is Victor

Which is why Oladipo who is the better defender and shooter/scorer than Payton is hands down the best player to have on the court of the two. Not even close.
I am aware that Oladipo has hit some big shots for us late in games, but he also has countless turnovers, bad shot selections, and has had his shot blocked numerous times. He forces it way too much. Always wants to be the hero.

Right, and he can actually make those shots at a little above 44% so it basically means he's not the guy you want playing hero ball. Mario takes bad shots as well, easily. But that's youth and inexperience. I actually think he and Dipo compliment each other. Mario opens up the floor for everyone tbh.MAGICian619 wrote:Blue_and_Whte wrote:MAGICian619 wrote:

Right which is exactly why he should be in. Whether you want to take out Oladipo or Elf, regardless, Mario should be in.

No I mean he's not the guy YOU want playing hero ball because he's actually shooting it well.
But I do like both in there

Thats perfect defense. That is just in incredible shot. Crazy how good Sugar cane leonard has gotten. We need to hire the Spurs development team.
what perfect defense he is too far too late
any closer and a good player draws the foul. Where he'd only 1 FT to win...and Leonard is pretty good from the stripe (88%).
they would win anyway Im not blaming him or anything
refs would secure win for them one way or another

That's why I wouldn't be surprised at all if Oladipo gets shipped. I can guarantee Henny and his team knows all there is to know about our numbers. I'm wondering if this ends up being like the Monta Ellis situation in GS, the fans ridiculed ownership after trading him, but soon realized he wasn't all that he was made out to be.

Dude,go rewatch that play. Fournier screwed up an inbound pass and Mario saved it. He was doubled and passed the ball to Oladipo who had an open shooter in the corner and only one guy under the basket. Mario actually didn't do anything wrong. Oladipo just made a bad decision.

Re: Magic(23-28) vs. Spurs(44-8)
He saved it at the top of the key and proceeded to DRIBBLE INTO THE CORNER INTO A DOUBLE TEAM. He tried to take whoever off the dribble then threw a jump pass to Dipo where Millsap made a good defensive play. As soon as Dipo started to turn Millsap stripped him, but Vic was looking at whoever was open at the top of the key, or so it appears. It was a split second play so its hard to be 100% sure what he was trying to do. Either way Mario should've given it back to Vooch to reset. Its a "young players" error and 1 play so its not really a big deal but that was 100% a Mario's bad decision.Dennis Reynolds wrote:Blue_and_Whte wrote:Dgbarnes wrote:

I have a feeling this kid is going to be blameless until his 3rd year when everyone turns on our players. That wasn't even the point I was trying to make. For **** sake, people get so personally hurt if you say anything other than how their favorite player is riding a unicorn saving foster children from a burning building.

I just told you to watch that play again. Nothing else. I just wanted to point out he didn't make a mistake. Sure,he could have made a better decision but he drew a double team and passed the ball to Oladipo who was in a good situation and had 2 good options to get us the lead. I just fail to see how is that a mistake, especially considering his good awareness is the thing that saved that possession in the first place. Nothing personal.
