Hypothetically of course...

Post#1 » by Baka_La Flame » Mon Feb 15, 2016 7:43 am

Let's say you had a time machine and were the GM of the Magic and were awarded the second pick in the 2014 draft. Would you still take AG or another player?

I sort of think so. Back then I would have taken any of the top three that went though.

Still would pick Jabari. Top 3 would be Gordon though

It's to early to tell but Wiggins still looks like he'll be a top player. AG or Wiggins for me

AG looking better than both of them so far as a two way player.

I just remember the boos at the Amway draft watch when AG was chosen over Exum. :banghead:

Yeah, and I remember how convinced people on Realgm were that Exum was going to be a star. Most of the people who were wrong don't seem to have lost any confidence in their own analyses.

Exum would have been hell of a player by now if it wasn't for injuries though. However, I wouldn't have taken him in front of Aaron simply because he was injury prone in his younger days as well.

Wasn't just that everyone thought Exum would break out. Most thought Gordon would bust. Before we drafted him I thought the same. Just seemed like an athletic guy with no skills. Happy I was wrong!

Yeah Im eating a crow.Henny was right.

I wanted Marcus Smart at the time.Smart isnt bad but he isnt great either at least atm... seems Gordon shows tons of more potential anyway.

Like I said, zero loss of confidence.

I never wanted Exum in the first place so it's pointless to direct your statement to me. I just told you I never wanted him cause he was injury prone in his youth as well and that wasn't a secret.

I wasn't one of them! I was hoping Exum was somewhere in the 2nd round of our draft board. Nothing about that kid looked exciting to me.

To be fair, I wasn't totally in love with the Gordon pick either. He couldn't shoot, had poor handles and was out of control on defense at the time. Unlike other prospects, at least I could watch tape and see why people thought he might some day correct those issues. He hasn't corrected them yet, but he is ahead of schedule. Marcus Smart was the guy I liked most after the top 3 that year but we already had Dipo and grabbed Elf that same year. So overall I was happy at the time.

AG never had poor handles (for a 6'9" guy of course)

I still see him as a small forward. Compare AG's tape from college to that of other top SF picks. He had some issues. Hell, Mario's handles and high dribble were my top basketball knock (his attitude being #1 overall).

But yes, you are correct. I am probably too hard on some guys. If we plan on using him as a PF then his handles are already very strong.

I thought for sure we would take Exum, but I wasn't unhappy wth AG. Just surprised.

In retrospect, I would have taken Parker, but I could certainly see the argument for AG.

The crazy thing is that I had totally forgotten Exum even existed.
