Re: Horford won
Yet another report from Hawks sources indicating the team isn't 'actively' seeking to trade Horford:
Sounds like Hawks management is backing away as quickly as possible from all the rumors including Horford in trade talks. These multiple 'sources' are likely planting seeds that will allow Bud and Wes plausible deniability when they attempt to re-sign Horford this summer.
It's definitely not a mistake/accident two separate league sources are putting out the same message. This is damage control, pure and simple.
HereOf all the All-Stars who actually had cause to face up to trade questions ahead of Thursday’s deadline, Atlanta’s Al Horford was the most realistic to be involved in a deal. Horford arrived as his name was being wrung through the rumor mill.
Horford is a free agent this summer, and though the Hawks could lose him for nothing, a league source told Sporting News that he has not sought a trade or informed the Hawks he would not stay in Atlanta. The same source said the Hawks are not actively shopping Horford, either...

It's not backtracking or anything. It's the Trade deadline Rumor mill - happens every year. C-Viv said 2 weeks ago that Hawks were not actively seeking trade. So it's nothing new.
GM A calls GM B ask if player A is available? GM B says 'what you offering' - next thing you know "Hawks are willing to trade player A"
Nothing wrong with due diligence to see what players value's are around the league.

Perhaps, but I read a number of articles over the past month indicating ownership's concerns regarding spending $144 million to keep Horford...who doesn't lead his team in points, rebounds, assists, steals or PER...Sounds like they're gonna argue semantics this summer when they try to re-sign him.
We did THINK about trading you, but we weren't actively TRYING to trade you.
Horford has a wife, a kid and plenty of options moving forward.
And grownups don't enjoy being d!cked around by their employers.

My stance is I trust nothing during the trade rumor deadline.
Everything said gets taken out of context or have their own spin depending on which side you are on.
Fun Times.

Now we've got discussions? with the Hawks for Blake Griffin? http://amicohoops.net/latest-griffin-hawks-howard-cavs/
That is a move you have to discuss. Blake has 2 more years @42M.
Could Griffin and Sap co-exist?

Re: Horford won
My gut it NO. Can Blake play Center?
I think if you did the Blake Griffin trade you are blowing up the Hawks core and hoping to attract people in the offseason. Griffen makes more sense with maybe Horford than Millsap, IMO

That's a tough one. I don't think it'd be a disaster...but it wouldn't be ideal, either.
But I can't imagine us getting a crack at Blake Griffin without including Millsap as the centerpiece of the trade.
Hypothetical to chew on:
If we were to move Millsap for Blake and move expiring Horford for expiring Howard...
could Blake Griffin and Dwight Howard co-exist in the same front court?
Or am I simply getting TOO carried away?

why are you trading an expiring Horford for expiring Howard - what's the gain to do that considering you have to add pieces from our team to make up Dwight's salary.

History has shown it takes elite players to beat elite players in the post season.
You aren't a fan of Dwight Howard...and that's fine, but his on court impact is undeniable. Two elite front court players (Blake and D12) could be enough to topple the 'Chosen One' and make this team/this franchise a place vets are willing to flock to for a chance to win.
Boston featured a super team of Hall of Famers and had a nice run culminating in an NBA Championship and a second run to Game 7 of the Finals.
MIA featured a super team of future Hall of Famers and had a nice run culminating in two NBA Championship and two other trips to the NBA Finals.
If we can feature a superteam this postseason...it could change the way players across the league view this moribund franchise.
Two guys of that caliber, if deployed properly, would force opposing teams to scramble in an attempt to adjust to US. Something that never happens.

Who else is on this team?

Re: Horford won
I think you are massively under selling the "ENTIRE LEAGUE THINKS D12 is CLOWN" and "BLake is a PUNK" sentiment that is rampant around the NBA.
I dont think people FLOCK to play with Blake and D12 on the same team.
But, Howard is interesting. If he resigns, you have to get youth on the wings but it could be really nice to have a legit Center.
Blake for star power is the only thing that makes sense. Millsap for Blake but if youre Clippers why would you do that? Maybe because Millsap is a better locker room guy than Blake?

I 100% am underselling that.
I believe money and winning will solve all issues.
It'd be a gamble, no doubt. It's a bold, win-now move.
I don't love it. But no frontcourt in the East could withstand that kind of barrage. We'd be attacking every Conference team where they are most vulnerable. In the paint.
But, admittedly, that team is just as likely to implode when D12 and Blake inevitably come to blows...

Re: Horford won
I would be ok with if:
You knew you could resign D12
If you knew you could get an elite shooter on the wings or creator.
If I knew Budenholzer could adapt to her personnel.

Man, I love AL Horford.
I still don't get why we haven't featured him as the #1 option or at PF.
It'd be one thing if we knew for certain he couldn't handle the burden. But we never just handed him the keys and made him THE guy.
Moving Horford from ATL would be like moving Grant Hill from Detroit. You know it needs to be done...but you still struggle to do it.

Of course he says that, no one says I HATE THIS TOWN I HOPE I GET TRADED 6 months before they are about to sign their most lucrative contract. He has nothing to gain from saying anything other than "I love it here, i want to stay".
