Stan and Jeff =GOAT

Post#1 » by Blkbrd671 » Tue Feb 16, 2016 11:06 pm

1.) RJ for DJ+Singler+ 2nd rounder(outside posters have defined this "As little value as possible")

2.) Did not trade away KCP

3.) Mook for 2nd rounder

4.) T. Harris for Caron Butler,Shawne Williams + Jennings

5.) Developing Dre

Not trading away one single asset that would impair our rebuild or hamper our efforts this season. We literally acquired our core for what amounts to "nothing".

Not to mention drafted SJ , Hilliard, and Dinwiddie who all look like viable role players and possibly stars or starters in this league

And probably his best move as GM.... dropkicking Josh Smith to the curb immediately.

Net in/out of trades of the Bower era (I call it the Bower era since he's the guy working the phones):

Out: DJ Augustin, Kyle Singler, 2nd rounders, Brandon Jennings, Caron Butler, Shane Williams

In: Reggie Jackson, Marcus Morris, Tobias Harris

Errr....yes we did!

Jeff Bower is looking like an underrated GM so far. He's the primary guy that pings the league for trades anyways and ultimately Stan approves/disapproves, although I'm grossly simplifying things here.

So hats off to Jeff and Stan.

Yeah. This is still the biggest impact on the team and it was incredible.

Oh man.

Joe would've kept Josh Smith and traded KCP for an aging "shooter"

No doubt, SVG and co have committed so flat out robbery in trades the past year or so.

One thing us for sure, much like what happened to Joe, Stan is not going to keep getting the better end of the deals. Other GM's around the league will actively try and avoid him.

No one can keep wheeling and dealing at this pace without others taking notice.

I am just shocked still.

Jackson
Pope
Morris/Harris
Harris/Morris
Andre

That's a young, talented ad **** team with massive room for growth.

What a great core, tradeable assets, cap room, e.t.c. stoked.

I am choosing to ignore Johnson for right now. He absolutely has the talent to be starting right now and unless SVG goes with a JUMBO lineup of;

Jackson
Johnson
Morris
Harris
Drummond

Someone is going to the bench next year. Morris is an amazing defender and we would miss that in the starting group.

So many talented players and flexibility. This is absolutely nutty. The Pistons are in such a sweet ass position I honestly don't know what to think. Only thing we can do as fans is watch games now and see how it comes together over the next 28 games.

So much talent and scoring and versatility in so many positions. This is nuts.

Even the ilyasova trade was a good one.
Those two have done miracles so far. Look at the roster pre-svg and now and it's night an day.
I'm not confident about playoffs this season, but the future looks bright.

Big picture, here's what I like best about this deal — it's kinda an extension of the Rudy Gay rumors, except I think Harris is better suited for significant minutes at the 4.

Many posters have questioned SVG's offensive system, asking if "1-in, 4-out" could really work in today's NBA. With this move, I think we're pushing all in on an ADAPTED version of that system. Rather than just being surrounded by one-dimensional spot up shooters, our lethal 1-5 P&R of Reggie and Dre will now be flanked by VERSATILE (there's that word again!), long, athletic, young players who can all shoot, attack, and create. No, none of them are elite shooters, but they're good enough at all facets of the game to keep defenses honest, and even guessing. Any combination of three out of KCP / SJ / Mook / Tobias should not just fit around our best two players, they should thrive with them and make our bread and butter P&R even deadlier. And this doesn't even touch upon our potential on the other end of the court, where we should basically be able to switch on anything.

We now have a fascinating SIX MAN core, all of whom are 26 and under. It was fun to think about some massive trade for Griffin or Love, but this move squarely cements SVG's vision for this team. Running with a comic book analogy, Dre is Batman, Reggie is Robin, and KCP / Stanley / Mook / Tobias are (in some order) Batgirl, Commissioner Gordon, Chief O'Hara, and Alfred — in other words, the essential support who our heroes depend upon. Will it work? I dunno, 'cuz I honestly don't think I've ever seen a team constructed like we are now. But damn it if I'm not looking forward to watching what we grow into ... TOGETHER ... over the next few seasons!

:D as a player i love the sh* out of him and as a GM uptil the Billups trade as well. Problem with Joe is that he refused to change and recognize the league's FO's changing, becoming more advanced and utilizing new technologies to evaluate and develop players.

What joe tried to do since 05 , SVG was able to do in 1.66 seasons

A lot of credit should go to our beefed up scouting department for identifying talent that fit the system...

A lot of credit should also go to Bower for not sacrificing many future assets (cap space is the only asset we've given up)

But at the end of day SVG has final say and he's killed it as GM.

Once again he's grabbed a young, talented player locked up to a team friendly long term deal!

As I said in the Harris trade thread: if we signed him last off-season 99% of the board would have blown their loads
