We are going to destroy the free agency market this summer

Post#1 » by tooler » Wed Feb 17, 2016 1:31 am

Potentially $50M to play with.

No superstars are going to join a lottery team, but we can max out second-tier players until we find another team that blinks. Guys coming off rookie contracts would love to join an up-and-coming team, and we can sweet-talk them by saying they can be the first option on offense since we don't have anyone on the roster like that right now.

so we talk about not having an alpha dog on the team, and our strategy is to max out 2nd tier players until a team blinks?

and if they blink, that should really mean that the player isnt worth a max, yet we would be offering it.

guys coming off rookie contracts will be matched. and that is all they care about, getting that first, big time contract.

Obviously Durant is the target for every team but it makes me wonder who else we are going for that is worth a max? Harrison barnes? Mike Conley? Horford? Whiteside?

I don't really care about the strategy because we're not doing much against LeBron and Steph in the next 3-5 years. I'm just grabbing my popcorn to sit back and watch the market get destroyed.

What if Durant ends up singing that 1 + 1 deal and wait to go into the free agency field with Westbrook?

Seriously though, we should start brainstorming realistic free agent targets.

I kind of like the idea of supermax 2- or 3-year deals for aging veterans or wackos like Whiteside. Buy our way into the playoffs while the young guys grow like we tried to do with Millsap, but don't keep them around forever. Conley is old, but would it matter if we only had him for 3 years?

Bad Ass move by Rob Hennigan. Ballz out swinging for the fences...way more exciting future than Harris and Frye

Conley is not old. He is in the prime of his career and still has many years left. Conley is in my opinion the second most underrated player in the NBA. WIth all the superstar PG in the league, solid all around PG like Conley never get noticed. I love EP, but he is not ready to lead a team like Conley. In time.

I seriously hope we land someone big... because it will be depressing to miss two years in a row.

Who are the notable candidates anyway?

Question: What if the Magic strike out on Free Agency and get stuck signing more Frye's/Watson style players?

I'm over here at home warming up to the idea of Jennings and wearing #55 now. Now we have (might) $50M for this summer?????

thats a loser mentality...you have to swing big to hit big...we know you just mad because SVG facilitated it...and enjoy Harris at $17.25m next season

Any big time free agent will want to play in a BIG City, not Orlando.

Sorry, truth hurts

Well, Henny hasn't swung big yet in his time here. Would like to him to swing big at least once. He only makes the low risk safe moves and prays that it works. I do like the players he has brought aboard, but they are not gelling as a team yet.

I think the Magic will try and lure Derozan and Durant to come play next to each other. Mario would be the 6th man and we'd be incredibly deep.

Something is at play here because we are really clearing space aggressively.

We have lost two guys and cleared over 40 million in space with those moves. Meanwhile our starting lineup remains intact.

he's got around $54m to take a couple of swings + a roster stocked with young high quality players that are only going to get better over the next couple of years...the future is exciting

The closest you're getting to Durant is if you stalk him in OKC and he calls the cops on you. Some of you are delusional AF
I live rent free in your head. You know who you are :D

Not changing this sig until Magic win a championship. Started 6/26/2015.
