Tommy Sheppard would be a better GM than Ernie.
Ernie is never going to leave. Damn it.

Congrats, on landing the worst gig in the league. I suspect that by the time this organization has managed to rid itself of the stench of Billy Kings tenure it'll be somebody else reaping the benefits.

Re: Tommy Sheppard is a Nets GM Candidate
He should take EG with him, or rather we can package EG in a box and send him with, yes?

Re: Tommy Sheppard is a Nets GM Candidate
I don't want anyone currently employed in the FO to be our next GM. But can we get the Nets to offer up a 2nd rounder in exchange?

The good news for Nets fans is that, because Brooklyn has traded away all of their draft picks, Sheppard - a Grunfield disciple- won't be in a position to draft more busts.

Re: Tommy Sheppard is a Nets GM Candidate
I like Tommy, as does literally everyone. Really good guy. I hope he gets the job and does well. I think Brooklyn is as good a job as any around the league. The owner has deep pockets and is willing to spend. The key is to spend smart, and not engage in Billy Knight-esque dumbassery.
All that said, I don't know how good he'll actually be. He was part of the internal "coalition" that talked Grunfeld out of going full MLE on Nick Young. He helped talk Grunfeld into limiting the first deal with Deshawn Stevenson to a "show me" contract. But, he was also part of front office's that drafted Jan Vesely and Nikoloz Tskitishvili. He pushed for Songaila. He thought trading that 5th pick for Miller and Foye was a good idea.

Was limiting Stevenson's deal a good idea at the time? I thought that DS was an underrated player and would have done better with the Wiz if he hadn't been overworked when his knees were swollen.
Btw, should that be Skita or Singleton?

Anyone who was part of "unanimous" decision to draft Vesely should never be hired or promoted.

The first deal with Stevenson was the show-me deal. It was good for both parties. His first year with the Wiz, they got 2400 minutes of roughly average play from him for the league minimum. He'd never played that well before. He did it again the following season after signing the Official Ernie Grunfeld "You Showed Me, Now I Pay You" contract (similar to the one Martell Webster got), except a little better. Then he got hurt and his production went off a cliff. (I swear, I'm writing about Stevenson, not Webster.) Had a bit of resurgence for that Mavericks team that won the title, but the best he ever played was in Washington.
I meant Skita. Tommy was part of the Nuggets front office that drafted Skita. So yeah, he was part of front offices that made what are arguably two of the ten worst high draft picks ever.

It does seem like every good thing EG and crew did turned out negatively - such as signing DS to that first contract ending up in him signing a bad contract.
That is brutal that Sheppard was involved with both Skita and Vesely. I hope he gets a GM job in the East.

Tommy Sheppard is a Nets GM Candidate
So according to the Tap, Tommy is out of the running. Do you think the interview ended when they asked "Unanimous on Vesely? please explain"

So-much to chose from. If you're the Nets, you have to ask Tommy about our drafting/FA decision process.

Re: Tommy Sheppard is a Nets GM Candidate
Sean Marks from the Spurs is a much better choice than Tommy Sheppard. Good job, Nets.
If only we had a rich Russian owner.

Funny, the Spurs are a de facto farm system for other teams coaches and FO.
