I'd do it. SJ is probably a top 5 pick in this draft, so we'd be better off than with the lakers pick imo.

You realize Detroit traded Knight away before, right? Doubt they want him back.

They may have wished they hadn't considering Jennings didn't work out much better and knight was a stud for the Bucks

That would be so funny. Trade Marcus back to the Suns.

Suns take on a couple contracts (Meeks, Baynes) but get a future stud in Johnson. Still leaves us with big hole at PF, but Bled-Booker-Johnson is great young core, with TJ coming off the bench. Like warriors, building small to big.

Good luck with that one. Everyday I walk outside I hope to see a lambo sitting in my driveway. On another note, Im a little irratated that p.j. has been pulled from trade talks. I guess at least if morris and tele are gone that will satisfy my tanking itch. Stanley Johnson lol.

You think Johnson helps DET win now more than adding Knight and Kieff? I don't, and I'd imagine Drummond wants to see a win now team when deciding where to play next year

Bottom line, Jerry had to sell the team, because he was bad with his finances.

I wouldn't call it bad with his finances. He was just never a multi millionaire...he rose as a GM for the Suns. To become owner was an achievement in itself, but you act like he gambled away his fortune or something. The only way he could have ever owned the Suns or likely we have a team in Phx at all is because he had to have some major leverage and take out loans. He continued to get investors, but interest builds too.

If interest rates were what they have been lately, he would have likely been fine, especially with the rise in values of nba franchises and all the tv deals. It's just too bad he did sell when he did and couldn't figure a way to hold on. We just didn't have a multimillionaire in Phx that was interested in becoming a major owner until Sarver stepped forward and wanted to eventually have all control. It's just too bad he didn't become a silent investor and fan and let Colangelo continue to run the organization as President or something.

Creating $200 million in debt, is being bad with ones finances, is it not? Glad Sarver did step up, it would have sucked to go through what Seattle did. JC made tons of mistakes, as did Bryan, it seems as if so many forget this.

Somewhat true. JC rode out the gravytrain and received a favorable leasing agreement from the city , so he generated some of his wealth while making the taxpayers foot the bill. Sarver is also benefiting from inheriting deferred advertising/suite revenue which is why he paid $400 mill for the purchase even though Forbes only valued the team at $282 mill

Yeah it unfortunately all starts & stops with ownership. My beloved Sonics are no more because of a s*** owner who acted like a child when things didn't go his way. Anyway enough of me ranting. Be thankful that you at least have a home town team. Things will turn around. :D

Yeah, most of the owners of teams came from building huge companies and stuff. Even Sarver is probably one of the least wealthy owners.

It does suck that you guys lost your team. I know many are against expansion, but I think it would be great to expand and add teams in KC and Seattle in the west and move two of Memphis, New Orleans or Minnesota to the east. I'd probably keep Memphis in the west of the three. Minnesota, in other sports has natural rivalries with Detroit, Chicago, and teams in Wisconsin. New Orleans kind of does too with Atlanta, Charlotte, and Florida teams.

He didn't create it, he borrowed it. Do you know anything about finances? You talk about forgetting things yet you can't even remember the name of our arena, and hardly watch any games. The Colangelo's made a lot of operational mistakes that I disagreed with, but they usually rebuilt fairly quickly and never had long dry spells of not making playoffs.

As far as finances, they just didn't have capital.

You're talking like you would call someone who had a mortgage and was leveraged 80% with only 20% equity making a big mistake. And while me, being in finance, don't even like being that leveraged, the Colangelo's were not wealthy and JC was self made and raised funds from small time investors. If he didn't leverage with banks, we don't have a team like Seattle.

I do miss seeing the Sonics as part of the NBA. I was in Seattle the year before they moved and most of the people I talked with didn't care too much about the Sonics which was unfortunate since they had Durant and I knew he would be huge.

I think within the next ten years the NBA is going to expand again and put a team back in Seattle. Give Payton and Kemp jersey retirements.

I love how that somehow nets out to -2 wins for each team.

I've seen a bunch of trades where the analysis works out terribly for all teams. Kerrsed posted one the other day that was like -5 to -10 for all teams. I've thought about pointing out the same.

I bet Miami would love Pau now that Bosh's future is uncertain. Perhaps they could flip Whiteside for him, he'd learn a lot from Noah.

Both are expiring I think, so no value lost there. I think it helps both teams this year.

Nice. Makes you wonder if it's possible to go back to every trade to see how it matched up to reality in terms of wins post-trade. Certainly difficult/impossible to pull out causality for any individual trade, but across hundreds over the years you would think someone could put together some kind of predictive model for trades. Maybe one already exists and is why some teams seem to always come out ahead in trades/signings.

Just one of many things to ponder as we wait for news...

Return to Phoenix Suns
