So a rookie will never see the floor under Doc Rivers...good move but we have zero future in terms of drafting a young guy and developing them.

This trade has personal attachment written all over it. Doc Rivers drafted Jeff Green in 2007, who would end up being used in a trade package for superstar Ray Allen. Green would then play for Doc Rivers via trade in the 2012 lockout season. Giving up a 1st round draft pick was a big no-no, but apparently, all rules are broken when it comes to getting his guys back.

Doc now has FOUR guys he loves: Pierce, Green, Crawford and his son.

I like this better than getting Frye. He's in the last year of his deal, if he plays well we have his bird rights, if not we have cap space.
I think we all knew doc was going to trade a 1st pick sooner or later, or draft a late first rounder to ride his bench

Well, Danny Ainge did humor Doc last year when Austin Rivers was in the middle of trade talks. And the Celtics were one of the teams with rumored interest in trading for Blake Griffin.

That's why I really think Doc may try to sway Ainge to L.A. in the off-season: both to save his job and to snag Kevin Durant away from OKC.

Celtics fan in peace.. Any protections on that 1st? I dont get why you needed to give up a 1st rounder along with Lance.

The way I see the 1st, is that it's going to Memphis. They aren't known for drafting good talent or finding gems late in the 1st round anyways. That's the only plus for the pick.

No clear info on the protection yet, Lowe says heavily protected, Amick says lottery protected and Woike says more than lottery protected. Depending on the final protection I might like the deal or not. If it's a top-20 protected for 2 years that turns into a 2nd I might like the deal, otherwise it's pretty terrible.

To have cap space we would have to renounce ALL our free agents. That means we are left with limited cap space ($8-$12 mil depending on cap #), no bird rights on anyone and have a rotation of CP3, Blake, DJ, Redick and Pierce. Thats not a good idea.

Allegedly lotto protected until 2021... When Doc wont be around and who knows about Blake, DJ, ect.

It might not be a late first by the time Memphis gets it, which is the problem.

Yes...but we have a window we need to maximize. If ever get to the point where we lose one or more of our top players, we'll then have cap space to replace them.

I like the trade, I'd much rather trade for today (within reason) than trade for 3-4 years from now. As long as there is some protection for the pick for a couple of years, I think Jeff Green is worth the net present value of that pick down the road. Not by much mind you, but if Doc is not going to play Lance then we needed to flip him into something that can contribute in the playoffs this year.

Jeff Green sucks. Why the hell are we trading for him to begin with, and especially giving up so much for him? How has nobody told Doc to stop giving away first-round picks like candy? We should have stood pat, this is ridiculous!

you know it's funny, i joke all the time about how doc will trade so and so and give a free first round draft pick too. but the fact that he actually really did it? again?
