This talk about being close to a superstar is just making the deadline more painful but good to know we're getting closer. Not surprised that it wasn't reported. Typical Ainge.

I'd bet my money on Butler.

I don't think Cousins would have surprised anyone. My best guess would be Jimmy Butler.

Jimmy Butler is not a star to me. He is a very good player who I consider an Allstar .

Harden, ADavis, Butler, Millsap all come to mind as potential guys that would have surprised people.

My wish is Jimmy Butler or John Wall. Or maybe Hayward/Favors or Conley/Gasol (not sure they're worth that much).

Is there a softer star out there than Harden?

I'd bet on Butler too. He's 27 in September. The Bulls are about to shift their timelines back half a decade. He doesn't fit that.

Butler for the BK 16 Nets pick? Hmm... Idk. Would rather have the chance to develop Simmons/Ingram than take on Butler. I want a 20 year old with star potential, rather than a 27 year old coming off an injury.

Which is why I say wait til draft night for any big draft. You know what rookie you can and can't get.

Star players to me are Lebron, Kevin Durant, Anthony Davis, Russell Westbrook , Harden, Cousins, Griffin ,Steph Curry, Kawhi Leonard,

Andre Drummond,Chris Paul and Paul George. If it's not any of these players then I don't believe we're really close to getting a star player .

If we assume the other team was indecisive if not dysfunctional, then it probably wasn't Detroit. Sacramento has been ruled out by the "wasn't reported" clause.

Chicago is the obvious guess.

Indiana is a longer shot.

Chicago is an ever better guess because they might only have wanted to trade Butler if they did other blow-it-up kinds of deals as well, notably shedding Gasol.

Whoever it was, it can be revisited in June. The better the draft pick, the easier it will be.

The "last minute change of heart" might indicate the mystery team is a dysfunctional one. I'm not pointing fingers at Sacramento; I'm just saying....

Andre Drummond is a loose interpretation of a "star." Harden is a star in stats only, doesn't drive a team. Lebron, Curry, Kawhi will never be Celtics.

In your supposition neither Durant or Westbrook aren't stars? Chris Paul is a star now but will be over the hill very soon. Might be wise to expand the vision of who star players are or who could be. Ainge needs to find who's next as opposed to who's now.

Teams need to develop stars as well as signing free agents.

Interesting. I'm a big fan of Butler; it would be cool if it's him that Danny's referring to. Kind of worried though that Thibs sent him onto a trajectory of early demise.

I already added Kevin Durant and Westbrook to that list after I noticed I left them out.

Why did the other team back out. Smh. Would have been to fun to discuss the Celtics getting a Franchise player .
