IMO had to be Griffin or Love and I'm leaning towards Griffin.

Apparently he went on and said it sets the groundwork for revisiting the trade later on and points out that they talked about/chased KG for 2 years before they got him.

He sounds very positive and upbeat this morning.

Not anyone that was rumored

sounds like something he'd say to protect himself.
Not many other 'stars' that could be moved are there? Maybe DeRozan, maybe Jimmy Butler or P George. Unlikely we see them moved though.

It would be from a team that was quiet. People that come to mind are Hayward, Lillard, A Davis, Barnes or even Chris Paul. Ainge did mention fans would have been shocked.

IMO, it was Butler. Bfb hinted at it last night. Probably backed out when they couldn't get the Kings first round pick for Gasol. Had the Bulls gotten that trade to go through (Koufos, Mclemore, and pick), then they go full tank and trade Butler. They would have entered this year's draft with as many as 3 lottery picks.

Good guess

Marc Gasol would be a good candidate. Grizz look like they could reset soon, the Grizz probably want to wait and see what happens with the BRK pick.
One day Marcus Smart will be defensive player of the year, mark my words.

This makes the most sense. Maybe he is trying to protect the team by not revealing who it is so the deal wouldn't be jeopardized, and can be revisited in the offseason .

My guess is Jimmy Butler as well. Could have also been Marc Gasol.

The actual name might not leak for a long time. Boston could piss off the other team and the other team could piss off its player.

Eventually Woj, Lowe or Mannix will reveal the mysterious team and Superstar.

I listened to that interview. I don't really remember Ainge ever saying it was a superstar. Just that a deal was arranged, but another team backed out. By the sounds of it, it sounded like a three team deal. He slipped up a bit and said "both teams backed out.." or something to that extent.

My guess is that the mystery player was Cousins for several reasons:

a.) It wasn't ANY of the rumored names;

b.) Cousins' name wasn't mentioned in any trade rumors because the Kings didn't really have to deal him;

c.) There were a few tweets leading up to the final hour of the deadline about "potential fireworks" in Sacramento;

d.) Referring back to "B," the Kings realized that there was really no real reason for them to trade Cousins, so they got cold feet and backed out.

Just my two cents.

Second thought was Harden, but I'm not sure Ainge would break the bank for him.

If it's not someone worth the Brooklyn pick, it wasn't either Gasol, Horford, or Howard.

If it's someone that was not rumored, it was not Love, Horford, Griffin, or Howard.

That leaves Butler... and Cousins (Cousins was NOT rumored this deadline, he was just talked about endlessly by fans)... or some other very talented all star.

(In a recent Bullpett article, a source from another team said Danny basically inquired about everyone who made an all star roster this year, but you can eliminate most of those guys right away- LeBron, Curry, Davis, Durant, etc. etc.)

Probably Cousins.

Oh, and for everyone saying Marc Gasol, that is almost a 100 percent no. He has shown signs of serious decline this year and has a long-term deal that probably won't look so good in another year or two.

A Butler/Smart backcourt would be sweet

Couldn't have been Cousins. Why would Sacramento scramble to try and get Gasol if they were just going to deal away Cousins? That makes zero sense.

Other then Butler the only guy that makes sense to me is Paul George.

Maybe. But if it was Paul George, Danny and Larry would be saying funny things about each other today.

PG or Butler. I could see it since the Bulls are falling off a cliff and trying to move Gasol. They just arent a team with pieces that mesh well.
