Celtics almost traded for Okafor

Post#1 » by LongLiveHinkie » Sat Feb 20, 2016 3:03 am

In an interview Ainge said he was very close to trading for a player, but wouldn't state who it was. The Boston Herald is reporting that player was Okafor and the Sixers backed out of the deal.

Thoughts? Guesses on the trade?

Wouldn't be surprised if they offered Nets pick&Smart and both it's declining value.

It's Ainge. He probably offered Rozier and Twolves first and was shocked when Hinkie never got back to him.

Ainge is indeed a douche, and a horrendous GM to boot.

Lol this. Ainge is notorious for being the worst incoming call in the GM offices in the entire league. Apparently he makes total nonsense trade offers to each team like a few times each month. He probably offered James Young, R.J. Hunter and David Lee or some s***.

I think Ainge just might make stuff up. Seems to leak alot of "we were close to stealing a trade" type of things.

I wouldn't have done it for just the pick, but this is encouraging for those worried about Hinkie's leeway and perhaps the organization's confidence in Embiid.

Danny can get back to us if the Net's pick is in the top 2.

Ainge is not parting with Brooklyn's pick so I know that wasn't included if this is indeed true. Single probably offered their own pick and Smart or some nonsense like that.

That's not near enough. You can trade MCW without knowing the value of the LAL pick. You cannot trade Okafor without knowing where the BRO pick will end up.

The Celtics would have to offer both BRO picks for me to even consider it. Even then I would probably say no. Right now for example the Nets only have a 37% chance of their pick being top three and 61% chance their pick falls into the 4-6 range. Is that good enough? Clearly not.

Of course if they want to offer something crazy like both BRO picks. Dallas pick and Memphis 2018 pick. It's worth discussing but Okafor should be as close to an untouchable as there is on the roster.

And that Brooklyn pick, considering the risk of falling out of top 2-3, doesn't hold much real value compared to it's perceived value of a top 3-4 pick. Draft is just horrible this year.

Ainge trying hard to move the Nets pick before Nets fall out of top 3 worst record and sean marks taking reign.

We don't know what was truly offered but I'm glad Hinkie didn't do the deal. The Nets pick is a unknown right now. Hinkie can probably do better on draft night as everyone knows who picks where and teams can become more desperate when the player they target is gone before they pick.

So far Hinkie hasn't disappointed me on draft night and I look forward to watching him rip another team off.

I'd rather take my chances trading Jah for Ingram come draft night than hoping for Nets pick to land 2nd overall.

If Simmons shooting issue persists and becomes a bigger issue while Jah continues to improve on both ends w/ability to play PF. Wouldn't surprise me if we'll be able to trade Jah for Simmons come draft night.

Well, it was douche behaviour to tell the press about this supposed deal with player x, a player the press was not speculating on. All it did was promote speculation and does nothing good for Sixers or Okafor. Of course the Celts come out of this fine because they get to demonstrate that they wanted the player. Just unnecessary and generally being a douche.

As for being a horrendous GM, well I disagree with that, he has a ring and consistently puts his club in flexible positions. Billy King is a horrific GM.

See, this actually makes a lot more sense on draft day. We will be much closer to knowing how Embiid is. We'll know where our pick is, and if the Laker's pick conveys... and quite frankly I don't know taht all that much will have changed in the Celtic's position that they would not be willing to make the same deal then.

Philly pulled out of Okafor for Nets pick last minute

Post#20 » by HartfordWhalers » Sat Feb 20, 2016 2:00 pm

Supposedly offered the Nets pick for Okafor --
[tweet]https://twitter.com/DerekBodnerNBA/status/700876931227639808[/tweet]

While a league source has indicated the late target Ainge has referred to in radio interviews was Philadelphia’s Jahlil Okafor

http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/celtics/2016/02/danny_ainge_makes_team_better_with_waiting

It's no secret they've been stockpiling assets in the hopes of landing a superstar, and the biggest one is the Brooklyn Nets' unprotected 2016 first-round pick. Ainge told WBZ NewsRadio's Adam Kauffman that the pick was on its way out before the other team backed out, and that the player who would have gone to Boston would have been a surprise because it was "never reported."

That interview will air tomorrow, but Ainge also joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich show on Thursday and discussed the trade that didn't go down.

"We were very close," Ainge said. "I can't tell you the team or the name, but it was very close. It's something that we had been deliberating on for two days straight. The other team was doing that. And we were wrapping ourselves around a big package to do a deal. And at the very last minute, they just said they did not want to do it. They just backed out. It was a deal that was talked about, thought about, and that was probably the closest that we came."
