If we don't sign really good FA PF, do you hope to re-sign Leuer, Telly, both or neither?

When your team is struggling to scrape together any talent, the last thing you wanna do is give up decent rotational players for free. Even if Mirza is too old for our core, you hold off and trade him for a pick or young player. You don't wanna give up value for nothing.

He is an UFA. No Bird rights...nothing.

cosmofizzo wrote:There's a big difference between Leuer and Teletovic. I voted Telly because he's so much more dangerous both as a shooter and in the post. I also like his toughness. But Leuer, while shooting a solid percentage from 3, needs time and space to get that shot off. Telly has deep range and a super-quick release, and for that reason, defenses need to stick close at all times.
Sign Leuer for $4 mil per, and no one's gonna be calling you trying to get that contract in two years, because he's nothing special. Telly, OTOH, getting $8 mil per, could be highly coveted a year or two down the line if he's not critical to our attack, which he may be. He's just on another level.
Leuer's a much better all around player though, and four years younger. Teletovic is a slightly better 3 pt shooter, but Leuer is a far better defender, rebounder, 2pt shooter, and just at doing the little things that don't show up in the box score. Teletovic is purely a role player, while Leuer is much more well rounded.

Teletovic is a way better 3p shooter than Leuer, he is one of the best in the entire league. If you are not in front of him he can make 3 or 4 threes in a row easily with a perfect, fast and high release.
His problem is athleticism/physical...on defense he is HORRIBLE, Leuer is way better than him on that regard.
At the end of the day I want other players next season at PF ...I am not impressed with any of them even at a cheap price.

I don't know if I'd say way better. Last I checked before last night he was 40.5% and Leuer was 40.2%.

I like both of these guys and they have both been true professionals. Kudos to McD and co for finding them. I ahd some doubts about Telly when the season started and he was slumping, but since he got the green light, he's been great. Here's how I see it. Leuer is a good player, but still learning, and will cost less. Telly looks like a key piece on a championship level team- 6th or 7th guy. He screams SAS type player to me. He's not as good traditionally as SAS's 3D guys, but he is right in the vein of a rich mans Red Rocket- a fairly rich man at that. I think his defense is getting a little underrated here too. His footspeed is not great, so that hurts him, and his not terrifically mobile, but he uses his body fairly effectively against bigger guys to maintain space, and though overall his rebounding rate isn't great, he is a pretty effective positional rebounder. One differentiating factor I think is we have Leuer 's rights but not Telly's.
I think if Humphries had not been acquired I would have said Leuer had the greater chance of being re-signed, but with Hump here at a price that Leuer is likely to be given on the open market, I think Telly actually takes it.
See below if TL;DR
Prediction: If Phx strikes out on a big FA, they will keep Hump and Telly.

I would like to resign Leuer but if Suns wouldn't do it I won't be mad. Telly should be role player on contending team (Tucker too) he is not good fit for a rebuilding team.
But all I really want for next year is lot of minutes for Booker, Warren, Len, Archie and whoever we draft. McD could sign his aunt and grandfather for the missing roster spots

Leuer is an occasional shooter, Teletovic is a pure shooter. Look their volume...
Teletovic 110 /271
Leuer 34/85

Yeah, I had mentioned volume earlier but regardless, if a pf can hit 40% from 3 he has to be respected by the defender.

Like I keep trying to figure out - it depends on what we're trying to achieve.
But I would think regardless if we're rebuilding or contending or conbuilding etc... If you can spend $10m on a 23 year old who is just as good, you'd rather do that.

Lets get Bargnani. He was a No 1 overall pick back in 2006, last No 1 overall pick we acquired was Shaq and he became Co-MVP of the All-star game with us. We need some excitement back!!

I think Derrick Rose is available. Bennett too. Let's make a team with 3 no 1 picks! That will bring excitement back for sure

Oh god. I remember when Blanks had Beasley and Wes Johnson (picks 2 and 4) as an excuse that he was investing in youth and potential.

In a couple of years, Bogut should be available too. You CANNOT build a contender without #1 picks!
I kind of hope we get the 2nd pick, so, of the two guys that are competing for the #1 pick, we get one by default instead of there being a chance of picking the wrong one...the Oden over Durant.

I prefer Teletovic over Leuer. I think Leuer is having a bit of a fluke season and that Telly is the perfect bench, instant offense guy.

Leur and only Leur. Maybe humphries if the price is right. But NO to Telly! I wanted him gone at the trade deadline because I have a bad feeling we are going to sign him to a multi year deal. He is not a winning basketball player at all. Sure he may get hot from 3 for a 5 game stretch but he has such awful shot selection. The only stat his awful shots show is on his field goal percentage. What it doesn't show is how it leads to so many easy buckets for the opposing team. Not to mention he can't guard a toddler. He is the type of player who stands out on a bad basketball team and that's about it.

I think the overall message in RealGM's recent article about Harris and the Pistons pretty aptly illustrates why Teletovic is a little overrated.
Trying out this Substack thing. Suns and NBA thoughts. Check it out: https://hoopsnexus.substack.com/
