Huh? How exactly the Knicks in a worse position then the Lakers?
It's in New York, Phil's home is in LA...lol

yeah you don't let Phil's 40 years of B-Ball experience at a high level walk if he's willing to take a back seat role as a consultant..

Ryan West is interesting, hope he stays in the fold but if he's good other teams will be throwing money at him as a GM which would be a loss but Mitch is pretty damn good at his job..

Ok. All I'm saying as of right now the Lakers are probably in the second worst position in the NBA next to the BYN. You have a 50-50 chance of keeping your pick. Kobe is about to retire. Russell looks like he could go either way.

The knicks aren't in a great position either owing their pick to TOR but at least they have Melo and one of the top young players in the NBA in KP. I'd take that situation any day of the week.

If only the Knicks were a notch above 12th in the East, I can only imagine how much more belligerent you lot would be.

Melo is Kobe 4 years ago. A chucker quickly approaching injury and retirement. KP is great, but who else? Due to miraculous drafting we have a great young core of Randle Russell Clarkson and Nance- whose floor is NBA starter and ceiling is perennial All-Star- to build around. Our record is horrific, but if you actually watch the games you will see it has nothing to do with the performance of those 4 guys.

Outside of KP Knicks literally have nothing great going for them. This offseason is going to make or break the Melo era there. If they fail to make complentary signings to the talent there or bring in a solid coach they should look to trade Melo and go full rebuild with KP.

I fear our this stupid compete for the WCF by 2017 deadline is going to have our FO doing something super stupid. Outside of signing KD (which probably isnt happening) they need to buy into the talent and keep grooming these young guys. Stop chasing names and build on a solid foundation. GSW weren't a team full of names and Steph wasn't even considered at top 5 player 2 years ago and Draymond Green wasn't even considered a good player.

Sometimes building with the talent you have and putting the proper pieces with them and empowering the young guys can go a long way.

It amazes me how the FO preaches that they wont waste cap space on non superstars, but over the last two years we've locked up 15 million long term for two chuckers in Nick Young, and Lou Williams. The type of guys you wouldn't see on any of the contenders.

That 15 million could go a long way this off season. That could have been a big portion of Harrison Barnes' salary. Or more than the yearly salary of a guy like Kent Bazemore, a rotation quality player on a contending team. I remember really wanting to sign Isaiah Thomas, and he's making less than Lou per year, and putting up star production in Boston now.

It's beyond frustrating watching the players we settle on. We need to lock in talent on long term contracts so we have some assets. Right now the only assets we have are our 4-5 draft picks over the last two years, but can't afford to trade them right now. It's also very important that we instill a coach who garners respect from players on this team, and the respect of players around the league. Scott isn't going to convince anyone to sign here. A guy from Kerr's staff like Walton might actually get some free agent's attention.

I think the trend we're seeing right now is that the preachy, old school guys like Byron Scott and Mark Jackson are doing nothing but holding their players back. It's the whole "back in my day, we just played tough, hard nosed basketball, man up".

Nick YOung was a stupid signing but Lou Williams wasn't terrible. At 7M a year he's a really solid bench guy. Hope they can move him for a solid asset this offseason.
