Hornets on track to beat franchise 3pt record (1996-1997)

Bonnell points out that the Hornets have a high likelihood of setting a new franchise record this season.

Rick Bonnell wrote:The Hornets record for 3s made is 591, back in 1996-97 before the original Hornets moved to New Orleans. These Hornets are already at 569 with 27 regular-season games remaining.

And of course, in typical Bonnell fashion, he had to add this:
Rick Bonnell wrote:There really is only one crossover: Dell Curry. He was the Hornets’ shooting guard back then and is their television analyst now.

Yes, Rick, the reason the Hornets are going to beat their franchise record for 3pters is because Dell Curry is the television analyst.

I'm really glad this team has transformed its offense into something not resembling an early 90s NBA team.

I sincerely would like to thank Hendo for his absence/departure from our roster.

The most noteworthy trivia aspect of this story, which bonnell doesnt mention, and which makes this current hornet's team flirting with the franchise record all the more interesting, is that 96-1997 was one of the years the NBA experimented with the shorter 22ft 3 point line.

I didnt care for the shorter line (nor did the nba which is probably why they scrapped it after two years) but if it were in effect now, this hornets teams probably would have already eclipsed the 3pt record weeks ago since guys like Cody probably would have been more inclined to shoot more of them.

I remember several games with that short line in the mid 90s, particularly one against the lakers in november of 1996 where Matt Geiger went 4-6 from downtown, had 22/10 and gave young Shaq an absolute fit.
