Is Winslow Miamis most important player?

Post#1 » by Magic Boo » Tue Feb 23, 2016 7:34 pm

Obviously he is not the best basketball player on the team. Not even top 5. But is he the most important one? It seems like everything and everyone starts clicking when he steps on the floor. He seemingly fits in every line up, no matter how undersized we are or how bad the spacing is, he makes it fit. His energy, hustle, defense, rebounding, cutting, running ability is so cruicial for this old team, without him we just look one step to slow.

"Justise Winslow's +29 performance Monday night vs. Pacers was the best by a #Heat player this season. He owns 3 of top 5"

"When on the floor in clutch situations, OffRtg is 111.9, DefRtg is 83.1. NetRtg at 28.8."

He also leads the team in 4th quarter minutes (big testament of his importance) and On/Off numbers.

Am i the only one who thinks like this?

I don't know. With all things being equal, It seems to me like Dragic is the most important. Our offense really suffers when he's been out.

Short answer - no.

Long answer - We're not a team like the Cavs or OKC where each game is basically decided by Lebron/Kyrie or Durant/Westbrook. Win or lose - it's on those guys.

We don't really have that 1 "most important" player these days. We have a bunch of guys that each can turn out to be the key to victory on any given night : Bosh, Wade, Dragon, Whiteside, Justise and even Deng have all shown the ability to lead us to victory, they rotate between them in taking the lead role, depending on a bunch of factors. On that same note - we can probably cover for any 1 of them reasonably well if anyone misses a few games.

Justise isn't in that consistent leadership stage yet, but being a 19 rook - even becoming a big factor on a playoff team is a big achievement.

The thing is, if Dragic is out Wade can do his job and also the other way around. But there is no one who can do those little things Justise is been doing all season. Deng is the only one capable as he showed yesterday but he didnt play like that all season. Maybe its because spo just sticked him on the corner until recently or because he gets old, but he isnt that player anymore.

I don't think this version of Wade and Dragic are interchangeable skill-wise as you suggest but that is a matter of opinion I guess. As for your overall question, I am with Rex. I don't think this is a team where one player is going to tilt things dramatically. We usually get in big problems when the injuries start piling. Otherwise, we can survive missing any ONE player for a period time.

Every team has a most important player, even if its just by a tiny margin. Its not about who can put this team on his back and lead to a victory, as you said we have plenty of guys who can do that. But who is interchangeable? Who is the one player you wouldnt want to left out of this team?

Dragic-Wade-Green-Deng-Hassan
Dragic-Green-Winslow-Deng-Hassan
Udrih-Wade-Winslow-Deng-Hassan
Dragic-Wade-Winslow-Josh-Hassan
Dragic-Wade-Winslow-Deng, Amare

I think the first lineup is the worst. Zero perimeter defense, no energy, old legs, imagine what Paul George would have done to us yesterday if Green had to guard him the rest of the game.

Well, if you MUST have a most important player, then let's take the Don's choice...

he has shown flashes at his young age of being a pretty good defender and i'm expecting him to improve in that area for years to come.now what he need to develop is a consistent offensive game and i think the heat could have a franchise player for a long time

No, but he's a key player. A glue/energy guy. So many 50/50 balls, steals, defensive plays, offensive rebounds, fastbreak points.

And than you add to that, a very-high basketball IQ and the fact that he's built like Hercules.

Definitely should be starting over Green.

While that is true, a strong offensive performance like he had against the Pacers can make a huge difference for our team. Winslow is an outstanding defender, but tends to have subpar offensive nights due to his obvious limitations which bring down his overall efficiency for the team. When he's a force on the offensive end as well, I would argue that he is our most impactful two-way player these days. Thus, he's definitely in my top-3 of most important players.

Same, it's Dragic even though Winslow's defense can't go under appreciated.

He is a key piece of a championship team our trade assett but might never be the most important player on the team.
1. Herro 2. Bol Bol 3. Seko 4. Bruno
unless we trade up for Barrett or trade down for PJ Washington

We are working on having a team with no main man. How wonderful would that be?

He is crucial to our team but not the best player.

Hassan, Winnie, TJ and JRich look a nice core going forward.
I remember when the Dolphins were perennial contenders
