Not just Mario's but Elfird and Aron too. He is literally destroying their confidence by not supporting them as young and error prone, but blaming them for losses. I can only imagine entering game with thoughts "oh my god I must not miss that, or fail on defence or I m done for the night".
I won't presume to be able to read into the minds of the players, but there is something to be said about letting players learn from their mistakes. I know that young players with high usage and turnover rates develop more. This is why I liked the decision to put the ball in Oladipo's hands in his rookie season.
There seems to be a sentiment among both fans and management to push this team forward, but development takes time, and a playoff appearance is a big ask of a team that was one of the worst in the league the last couple years.
Coaches can certainly be self-serving in their styles. They get more credit for their win/loss ratios than they do for the development of their players. Larry Brown is revered for his ability to squeeze wins out of a roster, but his authoritarian methods have yielded a very poor player development record.
