I guess i did a poor job describing.
1. Jensen makes more money than Stanton this season. there is no reason for them to dump Stanton just so they can gain Jensen. we can give our entire outfield and Stanton is worth more on the field. we all know Jeff Loria is always financially motivated. he will not trade out two most popular, and productive players on his team for a group of prospects while taking on more salary. if the deal brought him a boat load of talented prospects WHILE significanty lowering his payroll, yeah I can see that easily. but that is not the case here.
2. Donny "Potato" Mattingly has the ears of Jeff Loria. there is no way in hell he will let the Marlins make a deal for Puig. the reports state that Donny and Puig did not even speak to each other in their last couple of months together. I do see that one proposal prior have Puig going to Cleveland instead rather than keeping him too. no way they give away Carrasco for Puig alone when they turned down Puig AND De Leon. the rumor has it that we already pitched Puig and De Leon to the Indians for Carrasco and they countered with Joc and De Leon. I doubt Mattingly would prize Joc as he did not like Joc when he was our manager. he tried to "fix" Joc's swing and aproach at the plate when Joc was doing fine in April through June, and when Joc couldnt adjust to Donyy's liking, Don simply benched Joc and played ****. I doubt he would care to have Pederson in Marlins uniform now.
ehhhhh f it.

Putting Down My Torch and Pitchfork

Post#23 » by Ranma » Sun Dec 20, 2015 6:55 am

I'm going to own up to my overreaction to the TMZ report, which was outright shoddy reporting. That still doesn't mean that Yasiel doesn't need to work on his approach to the game and discipline, but I'm relieved to be wrong on this matter. MLB is still investigating but recent reports seem to indicate that it's much ado about nothing.

I just changed my vote in the poll but that mostly has to do with his current low trade value. If we can get an elite pitcher for him, I probably wouldn't hesitate to deal him.

Word from someone briefed on the encounter is that Puig originally tried to play peacemaker between his sister and her boyfriend, but was asked to leave after getting a bit loud. There might have been some disagreement about how quickly he was leaving, and bar workers are said to have physically escorted him out.

Apparently, he got hit in the eye during the escorting process, then after he broke free from their grip or they let him go, he apparently retaliated with a shot to one of the rougher bar workers.

It's hard to say how this would come under the heading of domestic violence, and perhaps it was a positive sign Puig was allowed by MLB to go to Cuba on the goodwill tour.

Still Missing Professional Mindset

Post#24 » by Ranma » Thu Jan 28, 2016 9:19 am

Andy McCullough, Los Angeles Times (1/26/16)
"You're right, he did suggest I lose a few pounds, for that exact reason," Puig said through a team official, who acted as his translator. "For me, I don't see the correlation between weight and how well one plays baseball, or how that affects one or the other. However, of course, I'm taking him up on that suggestion. Everyone else has encouraged me to do the same. But really, I don't see much correlation."

He added, "If that's their suggestions to better how I play and be a better player, then, absolutely, I'm on board with it."

Asked what he was doing to reach this goal, Puig stuck to generalities.

"Just training really hard," he said.

Roberts suggested he would be happy if Puig's weight settled between 235 and 240 pounds.

"It's hard to say," he said. "He's a large human."

Talking to Yasiel Puig Weighs on the Mind of Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts

Not gonna call him unprofessional for not understanding that carrying extra weight was probably hurting him.
He doesnt carry his extra weight like an A-Gon or a Turner….so I can kind of understand from that POV.

Do what Friedman and Roberts asked of you and we're fine IMO.
That's a part of being professional. If he decides to show up to camp heavy still after both made it an issue? Then I'll call him unprofessional.

Child-Like Denial

Post#26 » by Ranma » Thu Jan 28, 2016 9:29 pm

Yeah, I guess that's fair. As long as he follows the instructions of his GM and coach, that would classify as professional conduct, but not connecting the dots between weight and on-field performance seems immature, if not naive, to me. Maybe it's a cultural thing, but it speaks to me that he's still stubborn in being closed-minded.

It's troubling to me for him to imply that it's okay for him to eventually balloon up to Bartolo Colon or Miggy Cabrera levels and see himself as still an acceptable performer. We've excused his behavior as coming from a different environment, but there comes a point where he'll have to buy into being a pro instead of always strictly being a kid at heart. He may be able to get away with eating whatever he wants right now while he's young, but the mounting injuries and struggles as he ages portends to a downfall sooner rather than later.

I still don't know where his head is at. Does he even prioritize baseball over his extracurricular activities? Or is baseball just a means to an end for him? It's great that he's slimmed down and working out this off-season, but will he fall back into bad habits once he recaptures his form thinking that he can always and readily make the necessary adjustments later on?

well, let me just play a little devil's advocate here. the greatest baseball player of all time, Babe, was not exactly a 'fit-guy'. John Kruk also comes to mind. we can separate pitchers from position players since they are bound on the mound with little defensive responsibility, so we will rule out guys like David Wells or even Ben Ancheff (google this guy! lol) but among position players, even the current international FA Dae-Ho Lee whom I am big on, is a fat slob who just goes about his business and hits .300, 30 HRs and a 100 RBIs every year and won KBO's MVP and NPB's climax series MVP. Pablo Sandoval is another example. the issue really to me is, that he is not a proven superstar yet to be overweight. remember Crash Davis' line from Bull Durham?

"Your shower shoes have fungus on them. You'll never make it to the bigs with fungus on your shower shoes. Think classy, you'll be classy. If you win 20 in the show, you can let the fungus grow back and the press'll think you're colorful. Until you win 20 in the show, however, it means you are a slob."

Well…
does he mean that he doesnt mind being a Juan Uribe/ Pablo Sandoval?
or
does he mean it doesnt matter if he goes on a lifting regiment and adds a few pounds?

Kershaw was vague at best, suggesting that the truth is out there somewhere.

“The only thing I can say about all that is that Scott is one of my best friends and I believe in whatever Scott says,” Kershaw said. “And then anything else that happens outside of that, I wouldn’t pay much attention to because it’s probably not the truth.”

Say what?

“Scott is one of my best friends, so whatever I say to Scott, is what I say to Scott,” Kershaw said. “And everything else might not be the truth.”

Not a fan of this story.
Not a fan of Scott not keeping his trap shut.
Not a fan of his father being a former player and not knowing to shut up.
Not a fan of Kershaw not coming out and flat out denying it.

I'm open to any trade that makes sense outside of sending Kershaw or Seager away….but I'm officially pulling for Puig to prove EVERYBODY wrong.

Scott Van Slyke said he has apologized, but only to Kershaw.

“I want [Kershaw] to be able to tell me things without it getting out and I know that’s capable of happening,” Van Slyke said. “Besides that, my dad apologized and that was it. Forgive and forget and move on.”

an admission that this was true.

Siding with Kershaw

Post#31 » by Ranma » Sun Jan 31, 2016 3:46 am

I'm all for Yasiel Puig proving everyone--including myself and Kershaw--wrong, but I'm not going to blame Clayton for exhibiting leadership in going to the front office to do what's best for the team or for his politically correct statements. Yeah, I'm sure some would prefer Clayton to be more demonstrative in his leadership, but he's been around that clubhouse and is intimate with how to handle the personalities. Besides, he's just not that vocal of a guy. Molly Knight's story on Puig hasn't been refuted and we've seen how Puig deals with being confronted by the more vocal Matt Kemp in the past.

He's had to be dealt with kid gloves and I've grown tired of it. He's had time to adjust to life in America and expectations of being a professional ballplayer. His value is low right now, so it makes more sense to keep him and rehabilitate his value, but I continue to have doubts that he'll be a career Dodger. Again, I'm more than happy to eat crow if he proves me wrong and it is encouraging that he's making more of an effort by at least slimming down per the organization's suggestion, but he still makes comments that tell me that he doesn't get it. The man-child act has gotten old.

With regard to Scott Van Slyke, I can't fault him too much for telling his dad what Clayton told him, but his dad ran his mouth and he has to own it. Yeah, it's nice that both Van Slykes apologized to Kershaw but neither should be expected to be considered trustworthy by their peers.

Clayton is an honest and stand-up guy so he doesn't want to deny what he did, but he's also trying to back up Scott without re-igniting the tensions, but based on the photos of Kershaw and Puig's recent trip to Cuba, they aren't exactly bosom buddies. Puig has been tight with Joc playing paintball and he also connects with A-Gon, but dude doesn't seem inclined to be a part of the team. His play in the field exhibits more individuality than teamwork. It's like Chan Ho Park all over again.

Well, we can't do anything about Puig for the time being.

I just want our players to do the best to keep the circus out of Los Angeles. Not denying it IMO, was just an invitation to every writer with a twitter handle to trot this out there on any given night of the week.

All for him asking for him to be traded….but the circus it's bringing to our locker room this year….nothnx
Just wait until ST gets here and this story gets brought back up on MLB Network etc. etc. It's gonna be REAL annoying.
and when something like this hits a locker room…Kershaw and Puig wont be the only ones answering questions….the whole team will.

"He looks great," Friedman said. "He's worked extremely hard, both in Miami and in L.A. It was never a weight issue, in the classic sense. It was more about just how big and just how strong he had gotten."

Just going back to my point that I'm hoping Puig wasn't talking about becoming Pablo Sandoval and just thought that the strength he was adding in the off seasons wasn't an issue.

11% body fat isn't bad at all tbh….7 is absolutely fantastic.

Image
just did some googling to try and find examples…all i could come up with that quickly.

Dave Roberts on his sit down with Puig.
Had some nice things to say about Puig…still worried about whether he's burned bridges there already with players like Kershaw.
A-Gon and AJ said he has not.
SVS says he's always with Puig etc. etc.

edit:
and my mistake.
SVS has denied that he told his Dad that….so I'm happy.

Rumor that we're telling teams Puig is not available. Hard to imagine since Friedman has been parroting the phrase, "no hard and fast rules" all offseason.

the last time Yasiel was at a respectable playing weight and with healthy legs.
my goodness he could fly.
Now let's hope Roberts can harness the tools and make him smart on the base paths and hit cut off men.

Inspired by Country Pride

Post#35 » by Ranma » Sat Feb 6, 2016 2:17 am

I'm sure his struggles were a factor in Yasiel's more committed nature of late, but I also think his Cuban pride has been a motivation as well. After seeing Yoenis Cespedes in the spotlight while he was relegated to MIA status in the postseason, you have to think his competitive nature would want to prove to everyone that he's the better player. Plus, going back to visit his home country should inspire him to represent himself better as a star Cuban player.

Puig Making Some Effort to Fit In

Post#36 » by Ranma » Sat Feb 6, 2016 8:59 am

Jorge Morejón, ESPN.com (2/6/16)
"I am working to strengthen the legs and prevent injuries like last year and focused on continuing adjusting to my new life in the majors, to get along with my teammates and try to help the team," Puig said Friday in an interview with ESPN Deportes.

Puig already has met new Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, who replaced Don Mattingly this offseason.

"I talked to him and I am glad that he's on board, because I believe that he will help me a lot to relate to everybody on the team," Puig said. "When I was in Cuba [in December], I asked Nelson Cruz and Miguel Cabrera for some advice, because in their beginnings in MLB, they were also criticized. I don't know how to do it [to relate]. I'm not going locker by locker, shaking hands with everyone. The people like to criticize everything. They even criticized God, whom they didn't know, so, it doesn't matter if they criticize Yasiel Puig."

“I want to improve on last year, which was my worst season in all aspects,’’ Puig said. “I’ve never hit so poorly, not even when I was a little kid. Coming off such a bad season, I have to work on my body, my hitting, on hitting the cutoff man, all that’s required to do well in American baseball.’’

put that part in bold because his comments about weight in relation to playing were ambiguous at best and left doubt.
man if he emerges anything close to what you've said Ned and the mix with Seager….we're going to be so dangerous.
