Random Kings talk

We don't really have a general thread, so let's how this goes, anything about the Kings that doesn't seem to fit in an existing thread you feel like discussing.

Jason Thompson waived.

http://www.nba.com/warriors/news/warriors-waive-jason-thompson

Looks like JT's story may be over, or perhaps a new beginning. Sad part of this is he was finally on a winning team, he may of had an 8 year career and never of played a single game in the playoffs.

He played for us for 7 years, posting games played of 82, 82, 82, 81, 75, 75, 64

So he showed up for work every day, you could count on him for what he could do.

Too bad for him. Feels like he was born in the wrong era. The tweener 4/5 types that can't shot block or stretch the floor are losing (have lost?) their place in the league.

He was a consummate professional for us. I'll always respect him as a person.

The odd thing about it is that he felt his career was being held back here, when it's probably one of the only places he would have received the minutes he did

Karl was on grant and said that he's given Marco a longer leash but may look to cut his minutes now because he isn't playing out of the slump. Curry needs more minutes. They should give him a chance to start Ben isn't getting it done either

Ben has been really poor offensively after the break. I'm not sold on Curry myself, but making some sort of change may be valuable.

I think it is safe to say that SG contribution is the weak link in the starting 5, imo. PG contribution of Rondo is fine. SF contribution of Rudy is fine. PF contribution of WCS is fine. And C contribution of Cousins is fine. What is lacking? SG position, obviously.

So do we look to fix the problem through the draft and/or FA?

Something to keep an eye on is our draft pick too. It's currently at #10, so it is *safe* for the most part from the Bulls. Looking at our next 9 opponents though, that #10 slot may tank into a top-8/top-7 pick if the Kings do poorly in the next couple of weeks.

Unless there is another sure thing like Marcus Smart in the draft, it has to be by other means.

I like Jamal Murray from Kentucky for starters. If we can get our hands on him, I think he replaces BMac & Beli pretty easily, imo.

Not bad. I'm liking Buddy Hield from Oklahoma. He's probably the best scoring SG in the draft, plus he brings that WCS readiness as Buddy is a Senior. No doubt in my mind Buddy can start day one over Ben and Marco.

I also like Timothe Luwawu. He's 6'7 with a 7'2 wingspan who plays SG!

With the Kings possibly keeping their pick, I think it's almost time for the annual Draft thread.

I'm not sold on Buddy Hield. I think he's one of those NCAA scorers that won't see the same production in the NBA. Undersized tweener guard who is a capable, but not great, defender. I think he'd disappoint as a top 10 pick.

TWolves are buying out Kevin Martin's contract. I wonder if the Kings would take a look at him? Wasn't there some interest in Martin by by the Kings in the past December?

I think he can temporary fill in as a plug at SG until we find a more permanent solution later, imo.

That's the popular opinion on Buddy right now, and it may be true, however the contested shots he's hitting and at such a high percentage leaves me a bit optimistic. His size is fine, dude has a 6'8 wingspan and is probably 6'5 with shoes. His 215lbs frame is not undersized at all.

Why is Belinelli, after a terrible season, still forcing shots? That's some inept coaching and lack of self-realization, in tandem. Why do the teammates still put up with it?

Because a healthy lockerroom doesn't turn on a teammate when hes having a down year.

Karl said yesterday why he let Marco have the green light

I think we have to sign or trade for a capable veteran at SG, I don't mind developing someone behind them. But we can't just rely on the draft and waste more of Cousins time.

I tend to avoid draft specifics till I see where we are picking, so won't have much to offer until I see where the pick falls if we even get a pick this season.

That's why he's still taking contested or unbalanced shots?

I'd give him the green light within the context of team, intelligent b ball
