Hawks Interested In Kevin Martin If Bought Out

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Fri Feb 26, 2016 4:50 pm

Kevin Martin could receive a buyout from the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Martin is in the final year of his current contract.

The Dallas Mavericks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, Atlanta Hawks and Oklahoma City Thunder all are expected to pursue Martin.

Martin's destination could hinge on where Joe Johnson signs. http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/240992/Mavs-Cavs-Heat-Hawks-Thunder-Interested-In-Kevin-Martin-If-Bought-Out

It's just nice to know that we're being mentioned.
I doubt Kevin Martin will be interested.

We only have one roster spot open. If Joe and Kevin both agreed to join the hawks who would you prefer?

Joe: Better size, shot selection, and defense.

Has to be Joe. Defense alone would determine that.

Maybe they value an open roster spot more than signing someone

I think Martin will pick OKC. They need a shooter in the worst way right now at the 2.

Waiters
Roberson
Martin?

Meanwhile here in Atlanta...

David Lee
Anderson Varejao
JJ Hickson
Joe Johnson
Kevin Martin

But hey...at least we have this guy!

Kevin Martin has agreed upon a contract buyout agreement with the Minnesota Timberwolves before the deadline to make him playoff-eligible.

Martin will be pursued by multiple teams with the San Antonio Spurs already considered a strong contender.

The Atlanta Hawks, Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets will also pursue Martin...

Hawks still mentioned as possible destination for Martin, but don't know who would be cut to make create a roster spot.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if we place Tiago on IR, and thusly out for the season, doesn't that create a roster spot?

I don't think IR is an NBA thing.

Theres no IR in the NBA.

You would have to cut someone, and most likely it would be Patterson IMO. Or maybe Muscala

it would be a total D move to cut a guy after the playoff deadline to add Martin at this point.

Kevin Martin is not the difference between championship or bust, so I don't think you should paint your team in such a bad light by doing that. You either are waiving Kirk(a respected vet who will now not be able to sign with a contender) or Lamar(a young player with a future on your team). Sometimes the best move is no move.

Yeah, I think this is one of the drawbacks of coming into the season with a full 15 players on the roster. It limits greatly the amount of flexibility you have mid-season without being forced into some hard/unethical decisions.

Typically, we've started the last few seasons with only 14 players on the roster, right?

NOTE: I see we actually had 15 players on last season's opening day roster as well.

Patterson is the obvious cut, or Muscala (isnt Muscala expiring?) Mike Scott has played well i dont think he would go.

Kevin Martin is better than Patterson, but it would be a rental. Im not sure if Martin is worth signing for a team and cutting ANOTHER young talent.

Martin has better options.
The Spurs are supposedly the front-runners.

Return to Atlanta Hawks
