Russell's vision is what sets him clearly apart from Murray. D'Angelo is eventually going to be a great PG. At least on the offensive end...

Murta wrote:The more I watch Brandon Ingram's YouTube videos, the more I'm concerned about his foot speed. Brandon Ingram is one of the craftiest college players this year, but he's not particularly athletic. What makes Kevin Durant a phenom is that Durant can shoot from everywhere, attack the rim and bully smaller players in the post. Ingram can shoot from almost everywhere and that's about it. Another concern is his weight. Ingram has a nice frame, but he is freakishly skinny. Durant was considered to be skinny, yet he was 220 lbs in combine, Tyson Chandler was 225 lbs, Brandon Ingram started the year at 195 lbs, so let's say best case scenario, he added 10 lbs, that's still only 205.
And when Ingram gets to that level, how much foot speed is he going to lose? Probably not a lot, but Ingram's starting position isn't exactly great. A positive example for Ingram would be Paul Pierce who also lacks elite burst, has all kinds of craftiness and shooting. Ingram's moves and playing style are almost identical to Pierce's, look at this college video: link. But players like Paul Pierce are few. He was also much stronger and heavier than Ingram. Which means work to do for Ingram.
I don't want to get into Ingram's defense because most of his defensive lapses are mental, which will either improve with age and good coaching, or it won't. It is tough to gauge his physical defensive ceiling.
Overall Brandon Ingram is a nice prospect, but he is a mid-low floor, mid-high ceiling type of prospect. He's tough to project due to the weight thing. If he fills out properly and doesn't lose foot speed, with his height, there is a potential for him constantly playing like Jeff Green on good nights. That's a good good player. But if he doesn't, well, I don't like that scenario.
Ingram is plenty athletic. He's got a 40" vertical and when you combine that with his height and length his shot is nearly unblockable. He's never going to be lightening quick but due to his shot he won't need to be. Guys are going to have to worry about his shot first which will open up his driving game.
His ceiling is sky high. He can be a top 5 player in this league.

There's no denying that, but the vertical jump isn't translating to his on-court burst. NBA training will improve that, although given the need of adding a lot of weight, that is going to be a long process.
And to clarify, I see Ingram's ceiling as something Paul Pierce or Carmelo Anthony and I fully expect him to be at least Luol Deng level of player in anything except for worst case ridden with injuries or personal issues, but I absolutely don't see him with ceiling as high as Durant's current ability.

^ we're not to far apart then. i took your initial post, especially the mid-high cieling comment, to have his ceiling quite a bit lower than Pierce or Carmelo. I'd be thrilled to get our next Pierce or a Carmelo who cares about winning

I think a GM will talk himself into drafting Murray over Dunn. 3 years younger, and producing at a very high rate.
Simmons-Ingram-Murray-Bender-Brown-Dunn in some order could be the top 6.

Dunn is certainly not covering himself in glory the last 5-6 games, though has been battling the flu. He needs to put up a couple more big games, or GMs are going to start to pick him apart a bit due to his age. Not saying he drops to 12 or something, but could easily slide out of the top-5.

I can totally see the best player from this draft in 3 years being picked at 4-8. There are a few scorers who's game may translate better in NBA than some players ranked higher in college.

maybe. Don't over think it though. I think the clear cut best player from this draft class is going to be #1 pick Ben Simmons.

Or Bender. Could be the best forward since Slava Medvadenko.

I can see Ainge taking Murray at pick 4 or 5...

If we don't land a top 2 pick I strongly feel ainge will trade the pick in a package involving players. Hopefully some kind of redux of the Ray Allen deal. Hard to know who the target will be but man I love me some Jimmy Butler.

Acquiring Simmons may force Ainge to look at guards who can shoot in the future. Could be the best thing to happen to this team. If Smart continues his horrible shooting stretch, a guard should definitely be at least considered for 3-6.

Whoever makes me cry less between Kris Dunn and Jamal Murray. That's subject to change for now.

His standing reach is better than Zeller's and a half inch short of Sullinger's.

Thank you. Not sure if the Brown/Bender comments are sarcasm, but I think the top 5 of this draft is strong. It's 6 onward that is potentially disappointing.
But yeah, Brown is a freak athlete with a nice skill foundation. Same goes for Dunn. Bender may be a sharpshooting Pau. Why would any of that be disappointing to end up with?
