I was thinking the same exact thing. Irving for Bledsoe would work out PERFECT. Lebron gets his mini-me and we get the younger more well rounded PG.
Would we really be keen on Irving? This is a guy who wanted out BEFORE Lebron got there and carried them to his first playoff appearance. Do we really think he'll be content with the Suns?
I would be that keen on Irving. Super keen. He is locked up for four years after this one. We would get a honeymoon period to woo him.
We'll be locked up to four potentially disinterested, discontent years for max money. By the time Irving finishes his deal, he would've made $8m more than Bledsoe with the potential for another $19m more if he picks up his player option.
Irving in his best season with the Cavs, was a 22ppg/3rpg/5apg player. Bledsoe's best (full) season was a 17/5/6 player. Bledsoe this season was on pace for a 20/4/6 season. Irving is the better scorer and marginally better passer but that's about it. Bledsoe is a significant improvement on defense, he gets to the line at a higher rate per FGA and he's a better rebounder. Neither players are leaders and neither are great passers.
The only reason I might take Irving over Bledsoe is the questionable long-term health of Bledsoe's knees but Irving has health concerns of his own. I just don't see Irving being core part of a team to take us to the promiseland when he's unhappy doing the same thing with one of the greatest players on Earth. So I don't see why we should take on take on a young all-star who wanted out when things got difficult and wants out now when things aren't going the way he expected. I just can't see it being a happy partnership with this guy.
And for this reason, I'm out
