Sign Ty Lawson? Yes or No?

Post#1 » by walk with me » Tue Mar 1, 2016 3:00 pm

I already know what some of you are thinking....

"Why would you want an alcoholic anywhere near south beach?"

Give me a second and hear me out. It's said that Lawson and the rockets have agreed to a buyout. If this is true that means he will be available for a vet min deal. Ty Lawson is now in a position where he has to go to a city and impress or his nba career potentially will end.

Similar to joe Johnson, this is his last opportunity for a big contract. If we bring him in and he behaves (if he doesn't we bench him) I REALLY like the complexion of our team....

1. Dragic
2. Wade
3. Joe
4. Lou
5. Whiteside

The 2nd unit is some combo of: Lawson, green, justice, mcroberts, whiteside/amare

That leaves Josh Richardson, udonis and bosh if he manages to come back.

That sounds like an extremely dangerous roster come playoff time, I'd personally like to give ty a trial with us. Worst case scenario if he sucks and is a cancer we bench him for 2 months. I think this could be the key to the finals for us....

Lawson clearly has better landing places than Miami. If he is looking for a new contract, he doesn't want to come off the bench.

i hear that but what looks better from a GM perspective...

signing a guy who put up numbers on a non playoff team and his reputation and attitude are still in question

or

signing a guy who contributed to a successful playoff team and put the team ahead of himself and proved he's still capable of being a WINNER

To be clear I have no problem with Lawson's off court problems, which I think are greatly exaggerated. I seriously doubt we'll have any saints coming out of the NBA in the near future. My problem is entirely fit. To be effective Lawson needs to have the ball. He'll also be playing for a contract. 35-38 minutes per game on a team like the Knicks or Nets would be a big advertisement. He has little competition there. Here he would fight for minutes and create confusion. We need somebody like Beno Udrih or Sheldon Mack, an experienced PG who can hit an occasional 3, but mostly has a good midrange jumper and can drive to the hoop. Lawson doesn't even have a great shot.

beno udrih or sheldon mack?????

EGHKKKK

you'd want a 3rd string bench player over someone who was once a cusp all star who's still in his physical prime?

Sounds good, but real basketbtall players figure it out. Give me a bunch of ballers and a good support system (FO, Coaching, Cast) and well figure it out. Our big 3 team proved that... everyoen said that wouldn't fit either but we stayed discipline and guys figured it out. Ty Lawson would make us super dangerous. Guy was 18 and 10 at one point. Those days aren't behind him

LeBatard said that the Heat don't want him.

Dru Smith very lucky he got that 500k this year. He should invest and manage a subway after all this-MettaWorldPanda

He has a really good source high up in the Heat FO. He's not always right but he's definitely more connected than any of our local guys.

Okay.

Guess Beas is the man we're looking at then. :D

Man... I just can't get the fact that we could have two ultra quick pg's that could keep the pace on high if we signed Ty. He gets to the basket like no other & he shoots the ball fairly well. The man was a 15 & 9 guy just last season! The Heat really need to rethink this...

Throwing out the personal stuff... Why do people think he will be a fit?

He apparently doesn't play well with Harden because Harden demands the ball. It took Wade and Dragic a year to get some continuity and even that still has its ups and downs.

I don't see Lawson helping.
