Please enlighten us on a perfect mascot for the Clippers. Something that has to do with a "Clipper".

Don't complain about the cheesiness of Chuck if those are your ideal alternatives. LMAO

I was totally surprised to hear that we were getting a mascot and confused at the same time. I wasn't expecting on condor. I thought that if a mascot was picked it would have to do more with ships or the ocean. I guess in time I'll get used to Chuck. Hopefully people enjoy him at the games.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

It wasn't plural and it was one. And Mike the monster makes way more sense than the condor! Chuck is not cheesy, he's terrifying.

On ESPN radio they suggested the clippers to obtain the rights to Popeye. That would've been pretty cool

The Missing Link

Post#32 » by Wammy Giveaway » Wed Mar 2, 2016 10:55 pm

1. A condor is part of the New World Vulture family. So, condors are related to vultures.
2. ESPN suggested the Clippers should get the rights to Popeye (via King Features Syndicate or Time Warner, don't know the propriety owner).

Now the pieces are coming together...

Image

Found this at the Howard Lowery Auction. So the Clippers condor choice may have been due to having seen the Sea Hag's vulture off of a Popeye cartoon episode. It's not a direct relation to what Clipper fans want - ships, pirates, vast seas, treasure chests, mermaids or parrots - but it's one big stretch of the imagination in terms of six degrees of separation.

This whole introductory campaign for Chuck reminds me of the Simpson's episode where they introduced Poochy the dog on the Itchy and Scratchy Show. It's really campy.

Sure looks like Ballmer bought the team to be liked.

Man wants to literally be in the spotlight.

Hate Chuck? That's Okay - He Wasn't Meant To Serve You Anyway

From Arash Markazi of ESPN LA, plus selected excerpts:

[tweet]https://twitter.com/ArashMarkazi/status/705460018859155456[/tweet]

Arash Markazi wrote:Chuck the Condor was developed by Jason Klein and Casey White at Brandiose, a branding firm focused on designing official logos, uniforms and mascots for teams ranging from MLB's Cincinnati Reds to the Double-A Biloxi Shuckers. Klein and White were approached in July with the idea, and over the next few months the character was born. Klein and White, who are based in San Diego, were on Twitter when Chuck was introduced Monday.

"People ask us, 'Isn't it the worst when people hate something you've come up with?' and we say, 'No, the worst thing is when they're apathetic about it,'" said Klein, who served as "Big Al," Alabama's mascot, from 2000 to 2001 while he was in school. "That's the worst. Name the last mascot that was unveiled and broke the Internet. ... We create mascots that can't be ignored."

"I honestly expected the negativity on Twitter," said David Raymond, who originated the popular Phillie Phanatic mascot at Philadelphia Phillies games in 1978 and helped the Clippers select and train the performer who plays Chuck. [He now runs Raymond Entertainment, a character-branding mascot training company.] "Frankly, from the very beginning I told them no matter what they did and no matter how good it was, they were going to get a negative backlash at the beginning. They were prepared for some of that."

"People see a mascot, and they think, 'You don't want to win, you're fooling around and you're not serious,' but it's quite the contrary," Raymond said. "It's serious business to develop new NBA fans and new fans of your brand. You're not just driving your brand by appeasing the people who are only concerned with the play on the court. The business of sports is bigger than that. It's about entertainment. I have four children, and all four of them became fans of the Phillies because of the Phanatic."
