Re: PG: Nobody likes Black Santa Claus
We have been stuck with coaches who want to win but only on their terms. Their players and their schemes. What I wouldn't give for a coach who's willing to do anything and play anyone for a W.
Failderon playing 25 minutes of uninspired basketball. Why not? He's done that for two seasons. Sasha on the floor for any amount of time is a death sentence. AA gets you some buckets. Gallo will hit some shots. That's the extent of what your backcourt gives you.
You know your offense disappears with Melo off the floor. Why are you not putting as many players in to prevent that when he goes out? You say him at 78-72. Put in RoLo and KP to try to prevent the game from getting out of hand.
So many things wrong with this team and they're all coming to fruition at the same time

We have a future now with KP, picks and flexibility. If that is all that Phil leaves us then he's done a better job than the past 15 years of Knicks front offices.
No he is not, problem is most players do not want to come here, look at last year when we had some money to spend, all we got was AA, KOQ and Lopez, he couldn't get any top player
Top players don't come to 17 win teams. Phil's plan wasn't a 1 year turn around. Impatient ignorant fans thought we should be able to go from 17 wins to 45 in a year, which has never happened in the history of the game.
djdeluxe wrote:, he wanted Monroe (glad he didn't come) and he would have over paid for him.
Wrong again. We low balled Monroe, because our scouting/front office knew he wasn't a max contract. Listening to Monroe's agent is asinine. No agent anywhere would publicly admit that their player was offered less from a team. That's asinine to assume such. We are much better with Rolo than Monroe. It's not even close to comparison.
djdeluxe wrote: He also has players that no one wants, say what you want about Isiah at least he had some talented pieces that he could trade.
After Isiah was released, we were left with 4 infamous contracts that were deemed untradable by many many experts, unwanted and in no way "talented" at that time. In case anyone forgot, they were Randolph, Crawford, Curry and Jeffries. Every one of them were untradable at the time Donnie took over. Please don't change the truth of past events to support your agenda. Isiah was arguably the worst GM in the history of sports.
This link will give you a refresher on some of what Isiah left us with when Donnie took over. http://knickerblogger.net/donnie-walsh-transaction-timeline/
djdeluxe wrote:And everyone is waiting for the summer, who will we get?, who will want to come here with this triangle mess and possibly an unknown coach, if we do not get a star type player it will be the same as this year and we better get a new offense because its not working.
I too hate the triangle, but I'm not going to assume Phil hires Shaw over Thibs if both want to coach here. What if we trade Melo and go full rebuild? What if we sign Thibs? There's too many unknowns to really get mad about something that hasn't happened yet and none of us fans have the slightest idea about what will happen.

It's crazy how some of you actually compare Phil to the past decade of suck. If Phil leaves tomorrow, the franchise will be in 100x better shape than it ever was under Layden, IT, Walsh and Grunwald.
We have things we never had before. We have a great cap situation. We have a great rookie. We have a superstar. We have some other good valuable assets. We have no albatrosses or big deficiencies.
Yes, our head coaching situation leaves a lot to be desired. Yes, our depth is one of the worst in the league. Everything can't be fixed right away. The hard part was already done. Phil has reset this team in terms of assets and put us in a healthy situation going forward.

Re: PG: Nobody likes Black Santa Claus
The problem with this whole triangle offense is the only coach who can coach it is Phil, I don't buy his excuse that for medical reasons he can come down.....wasn't he ready to coach the Lakers and waiting by his phone until Little Buss dissed him. I just dont see us winning with him hiring his puppets as coach while he implements his ideas from top, look at Calderon and Sasha you all really think this has nothing to do with Phil ? I hope Dolan stops him from hiring anymore Triangle coaches and brings Thibs in here and makes him the face of the franchise for years to come becauase let face it how many nore years of Phil do you people think you hav, lucky if you get 2 more before he opts out and goes back lo L.A. No matter what we will be dealing with a new President in Knickland real soon

Either that or just blow it up and trade Melo (my preference). Whether we will do those things is another question, but they are all feasible options. That's where this situation has a major edge over our past. Having a vet star we can trade for assets and a young stud we can build around makes this situation closer to one of the best, then the worst over the past 15 years. At least have options.
Don't forget the fact that we have all of our firsts after this offseason and cap space too. We have every tool on the table to address our needs because Phil hasn't rushed a move since the Chandler trade.
I just imagine trading a 1st and other assets for Teague. Who is playing mediocre. WIth a banged up melo. We would have probably missed out on the playoffs and been pigeon holed again to just playing for a 7th or 8th seed. Instead Phil did hold strong and keep our picks which most of all allows us to keep our flexibility. That shouldn't be overlooked.
Yeah, I was not a fan of trading future picks for Teague especially when he would have cost more then even just our ’18 pick. Things could def be worse. After the draft, we will have control of every single first round pick. That is amazing. I really can’t remember the last time that happened.
Little things like that will go a long ways in helping our future. The results will eventually be there if we remain patient.

It's Year 2 in the PJax era. Even he knows he can't make this a playoff team overnight. But Alan Hahn said it best: he needs to get major talent in free agency this summer, as well as drop his desire for a triangle-based coach.

We have nothing else to do. That is the point im arguing. The other option is Allan Houston running the show. And does anyone actually believe Mills or Houston would say no to Dolan if he requested a certain move (via Isiah Thomas). No because they would really just be puppets.
Phil has his faults but at least he isn't a Dolan Puppet.

But we would have won more games: without starting Jose, playing Vujacic at all, changing rotations every game, firing Fisher earlier, not upgrading Rambis to HC, hiring Thibodeau and dumping the Triangle.

I agree. At least under Phil, the future has not been sacrificed. Things would not be so bad if the Knicks had their draft pick this year, but that is not Phil's fault that they dont. He has been very wise with managing the payroll and keeping the future 1st round picks.

Exactly. Layden, IT, Walsh and even Grunwald got bigger leashes from our fanbase than 2 years.
I get people are scorned with our Knicks and as soon as we see losses we want change. People have to analyze why there are losses and if they come from different reasons than those in the past. At the very least, it's easy to see that this situation is at least different than the past. Considering what we did previously hasn't worked out, maybe this is the right way?

we need the beat writers to tell it like it is to Rambis. Ask him why he's playing Sasha, why he's not taking out Jose early, ask him tougher questions.... do it, do it!

How could people possibly think that this is worse than the Isaiah years? Really? Some of y'all must have forgotten where we came from. Our situation isn't great, but it can be improved, and it isn't hopeless.

Fans want to see the progress, but if it goes backwards we don't hesitate to blame the coach or the front office, and for good reason.
PJax at least admitted to the mistake of Calderon, and he didn't expect to have Vujacic play any minutes during the season. But with Grant not mentally ready for a role, this happens. So I say it's not time to pull out the torches yet, but PJax knows he has to get it right this summer.

Or we can just tank again next year, which would be in our best long term interests. Getting a second star to play with Porzingis is more important than a playoff run with Thibs.

he's not gonna get major talent when we're this bad. and i doubt he'll go after thibbs either. a tiger doesn't change his stripes.
