How bad is CJ Watson?

Post#1 » by TKainZero » Thu Mar 3, 2016 3:33 am

I thought he was bad just from watching him, and then I looked at his stats, and 'yew ghawds', he is terrible.

18 shots made on the season, in 15 games 18 mins a night. (Jennings has 21 FG made since he became a member of the Magic)
He is supposed to be a shooter right?
Or has he sneaky become a good defender? (like Jason kidd became a good 3 point shooter late in his career when he couldn't shoot before)

And maybe he is a good defender?
He has more blocks in the past 2 games than FG made.

I would much rather have Earl Watson at this point.

I remember him on the Pacers in years past but only in passing. I am shocked at his demeanor. It's like someone killed his dog before the game EVERY night he takes the court.

Saying he's not playing very good is putting it lightly. Defense is solid but the rest of his game is absolute trash right now. Trying to give him the benefit of the doubt only because he missed a huge chunk of the season due to injury.

He looks very old and past it (even before the injury). Shockingly bad considering he was supposedly good as recently as last season. He hasn't been able to play much though, so I'll give him more time to get it together.

But his previous calling card was his 3 point shooting.
Maybe he always had average defense, but his Plus 3 point shooting was his biggest draw before

He just is playing terribly, perhaps it is all injury related.

BUT, if it IS injury related, why is he getting played so many mins per game?

Also, his jumper is ugly as hell, but I'd like to start seeing it go down at the clip he's shot his whole career.

Exactly.
If he could shoot 39%
instead of 29%

We would like him.

It's pretty crazy how badly he's fallen off. He seemed like an amazing compliment and backup to Elf. Now you cringe when you see him about to enter the game.

Sherlock Holmes always counted on Watson to back him up with his old service revolver. Would he trust CJ right now?
11/18/2017 - I have officially disowned Nikola Vucevic and branded him a loser.

- Skal Labissiere was my guy in 2016 pre-trade. Whoops, but I still believe.
- Malik Monk was my guy in 2017. Whoops(?)
- Mo Bamba was my guy in 2018. TBD.

I wouldn't trust a dead-eye shooter 29% of the time

Let's see how he comes together the rest of the season.

This thread could also use a more appropriate title.

If The Magic deal their pick this year, you can bet they will probably move Watson with it regardless of how he plays.

Bad timing that he came back the same time Jennings arrived. Now for CJ to get time he comes in at SG, where CJ isn't even a big PG to begin with.

I think he would have done well had he never gotten injured.

Guy was out for months, coming back to play with a drastically different rotation... You're going to roast him after 3 games?

Watson was solid for us in those first 10 or so games. He is competent enough to bring the ball up, but really excels on D (how about that steal when he was the only 1 back on a 2 on 1 last night?). He was, and will, play well in 2nd units where Oladipo/Fournier do a lot of the ball handling, and he spots up as a shooter.

Have some patience, sheesh.

Yeah, I'm hoping it's just rust and he'll get better, but currently he isn't very good.

I don' t understand how someone just looks at shooting numbers and judges a guy then complains about their poor play and coaching. If you just look at offense, you don't understand why Skiles plays CJ Watson.

Hopefully, Skiles is playing Watson all these minutes only to generate trade interest this off season. Cuz, he needs to go!
