I watched the Minnesota broadcast last night because I'd never heard their crew before. I thought they were pretty good BTW. Struck a positive tone without becoming homers. That's tough to do when you've got a rebuilding team on your hands and they're making so many mistakes that the on court product is rough. They talked a lot about Xs and Os making me think the color guy was probably a former coach. Did more with that than Phil does anyway.

Minnesota reminds me of us from three or four seasons ago. You can see that KAT is a transcendent talent and future superstar like Wall was. Wiggins is a super athlete and, when/if he becomes more assertive, he's going to be a good sidekick to KAT, similar to Beal. There are some other pretty good young role players in their too. They'll shuffle around their talent a bit to bring in better fitting pieces, and they need to start getting older and more experienced to make the next step to becoming a winner. But the seeds have been planted.

One of the things that stood out to me was how impressed the Minny broadcast team was with our bench. Couldn't believe how many quality veteran players we had. I remember having that exact same thought when we would play teams like the Celtics back in 2011. Made me appreciate the fact that we do have a good bench.

Oh man, Oubre just isn't ready. And we forget that Wall/Temple/Porter has been one of the more consistent parts of the lineup. We can bash but... Beal has been hurt and wildly inconsistent, Neal hurt and absolute no D, Anderson hurt...

OMG, I am defending Wittman :noway:

We have Cleveland(out for revenge) and pacers(team that tends to kill us) coming up back to back. Plus it's been kind of a trend this yr that whenever we hit .500 we follow it with a losing streak.

IND killed us in an early game this season when both Miles and PG went nuts from 3-land.
But we beat them later, pretty badly IIRC. This is the game we must win. Love to beat CLE too and even
though we've beaten them 2x this year, I don't expect a 3rd W against them.

Wow, posts around here are really getting kind of funny. A couple of days ago, Beal was a disaster. Now it's all different. A couple of days ago, Temple had 7 points on 3 shots and shut down everyone he guarded. Now... anybody but him. Even Oubre at the 2. Now there's an idea, not.

It's great to be winning games. It's a lot more fun than being 4 games under .500. It's great to watch Alan Anderson, coming in fresh this late in the season, play well.

If it continues for a while, lets enjoy it.
pif, you know me better than that. First off I'm the most positive guy here. So much so that they named the optimisim thread after me. 2nd, I never want to play Temple. Unless you are really good or have potential to be really good, then I want a guy who can shoot around Wall. Thats it. How can you have our starting SG beside a passer like Wall be having stretches of 4-30 especiallywhen you just benched an elite shooter in Dudley. You need to replace because we have no starter right now who is an above average shooter for the most part.

Temple has no upside to fall back on and his D is overrated. One minute he gives someone fits and that's all you remember but the next game he will get torched and beat backdoor a ton. We are supposed to be running a uptempo 3pt system but we have no shooters beside Wall when that's what we always say we need. We get off ro average starts and alot of times blow to start the 3rd

Anderson was a breath of fresh air - he took all the open 3 looks he got - and when defenders got too close he drove to the hoop - and he's a strong guy, so he's not afraid to go in and take some contact. And Morris' value might be biggest in that he lets Dudley play against backups - at least when Morris doesn't pick up fouls at a record rate.

Still, look at the records of the teams the Wiz have beaten lately. The schedule gets for real from now on. Just an indication - how many of the 3 games against Atlanta will the Wiz win?

Great point - if we could take those 3 games...

Anderson has a slow release on his jumper. I could see that being an issue against a better defensive team. He's a pretty good shooter though.

Been watching Otto's shot lately and noticed that his release has gotten really fast. If he gets that thing to start dropping more he is going to be an outstanding player.

Oubre would be ready if we continued to play him when he started...instead he was bench deeply....
U can say oubre isn't ready but he started games for us and we won...
Rookies need playing time To get ready... He jus needs to the consistent minutes to get the feel of the game...we gave beal and wall both the chance to do that and Porter to a lesser extent
Pay your beals....or its lights out!!!
Bron, Bosh, Wade is like Mike, Hakeem, barkley...3 top 5 picks from same draft

Oubre has already played twice the minutes that Porter played. You can't really blame Wittman who is fighting to save his job for this - well you could but...

Code: Select all

Player        Season   Age   MP    WS/48     VORP
Kelly Oubre   2015-16   20   536    0.031   -0.5
Otto Porter   2013-14   20   319   -0.006   -0.4

And frankly, Oubre has been pretty bad defensively. Yeah, he can be disruptive with his aggressiveness and long arms, but usually it resulted in fouls. He was also consistently bad at preventing his opponent from establishing low post position. I felt that he was getting exploited on this more and more as the season wore on.

Oubre has some work to do in the offseason. The kid is raw as hell on defense.

I don't know why, but I feel extremely defensive of Garrett Temple -- probably because of how hard he's worked to secure his spot in the league, to become something more than a marginal player. That doesn't mean I want him to play 25+ minutes a game on the season, which is what's happening right now. He's already played just about twice as many minutes as he played all of last season.

So... take my defense of him w/ a grain of salt. :)
