The Heat dont have a pick they could trade until 2020. Winslow would be similar to the pick and Dragic and McRoberts are both useful players that could do well here. I believe Melo would waive his NTC for Miami and a chance to play with Wade and Bosh.
Knicks
Lopez/OQ
Porzingis/McRoberts
Winslow/Early
Galloway
Dragic/Grant
with about 35 million in capspace
Heat
Whiteside
Bosh
Melo
Wade
Johnson/Richardson
They would obviously build up that team with some vets that want to play for a winner and in Miami.
Who says no?
I do that is f'n awful. Dragic has one of the worst contracts in the league. McSuck contract awful. Winslow has a 8.13 PER.
The Lakers would be a good team to target they have some young players and a crap ton of cap space.
How do you feel about going after Mike Conley?
Surely he is going to be getting around 20 million a season...
I'd say we have a 5% chance to sign Conley this summer. If we hire Thibs, I'd bump it to 15-20%. The guy is loyal and verbally committed to Gasol that they'd try to build a winner in Memphis.

KP is 20...we need to start building up our talent base now so that we can actually compete when he's older...we have the time to do it before he reaches his prime. We need good, young players that will be cost controlled for 8-9 years. After KP, who is our next best young player? Galloway? That's not a good outlook for our future.
Man fu*k all that, if we don't have a all-star player or better next to KP you're doing to him what was done to Melo & Ewing.
Having "young" talent means squat sh*t if they're gonna be nothing more than role players when it comes time for contending.
Matter of fact that's regression for KP going from the mentorship & the play of a superior player to having a bunch of peasants around him.
We need a real team around KP...not this sh*t we have right now. We need an actual core, and most good teams got that core through the draft.
How do u know that they're gonna be nothing more than role players? Tank next season for one of the top prospects in the 2017 draft and you've probably got your 2nd star right there who will be with you for the next 8+ years.
No star is coming here in FA...so how else are we going to get one? Through a trade? We have no assets because we have no talent base.
I agree for the most part with your first sentence, but after that I think you are a bit out of touch.
The Warriors got Curry with the 6th pick. Barnes went 7th. Klay Thompson went 11th. Ezeli went 30th. Green went 35th! Bogut, Iguodala were acquired through trade. Livingston, Speights, Barbosa all through free agency.
The Spurs got Duncan with the 1st which obviously put them in a great place (and Pop as coach has sure helped). Tony Parker went 28th. Manu Ginobili went 57th! Kawhi Leonard went 15th! The rest of their teams has essentially been built through international scouting, find quality people that fit their system, and great coaching.
That's a huge part of why I am not for tanking. I AM for keeping our draft picks, I AM for collecting other teams picks, but putting out a bad product intentionally to get a high pick doesn't mean jack shid if you don't make the right pick and choose the right players that fit your team. You have Jan Vesley, Dion Waiters, Thomas Robinson, Anthony Bennett, Thabeet (the list goes on and on) that were all top 5 picks that have all been major busts. Look at the Sixers right now, they have intentionally sucked for 4 years now to collect high picks and what do they have to show for it? The worst record in the league and no improvement in sight.
It's also why I love having a guy like Phil here. He has a vision of the type of players he wants. He values character and chemistry over talent and he isn't going to put up with any BS or drama from players until we have a collection of players that can keep one or two crazy guys in check (Artest and Rodman are the outliers that worked due to the rest of the locker room being so straight thinking).
Having stability and one goal, one agenda, and one mindset throughout the entire organization is the only way to build a truly great team!
Go Knicks!

He's never had the opportunity to show his loyalty. He has pretty much been stuck with Memphis since they drafted him regardless if he wanted to be there or not. Gasol now has a broken foot (which is a terrible injury for a man of his size. see; Yao, Embiid, even Lopez has had recurring foot problems), Randolph and Allen are both past their primes. They dont have any young players the truly have star potential. These guys aren't beating GSW, SAS, OKC, or even LAC any time soon. Sure they can continue being a 4th-8th seed in the playoffs but they won't make it past the 2nd round without a major shakeup.
That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if Conley resigned with Memphis, they can offer the most money and years. I don't see building a winner with Marc Gasol in Memphis as one of those reasons...
Recent history suggests that players who say they want to explore options in free agency, and that "everything is on the table" or "I'm open to anything" typically leave their team when free agency comes around.
Go Knicks!

What does Mike Conley have to do with anything? One is a free agent the other you have the Knicks giving up really the only asset left on the team not named KP.
BTW, Dragic and McSuck are getting paid a combined 20 million anyways.

Re: NBA execs: What Knicks could get in Carmelo Anthony trade
Sometimes I think people just bring up the Melo Trade because New York has no other assests therefore nothing else to talk about. We gave up a huge haul for him and then for the sake of change people want to talk about trading him despite the no trade clause. That's the very definition of buying high selling low which this team can't afford. Unproductive and Futile. We need to add pieces that are in the upper echelon of the Nba not extract them for mid level talent.
Enjoy a top player who has greatly improved his game and look to add to the mix.

People bring up Anthony because he can't be LeBron James. Its been the crux of Knick fans animosity to Anthony from the start. Same thing when Marbury was here...why can't he be Walt Frazier. Same thing when Ewing was here...why can't he be Hakeem or Michael.

Well you also get Winslow who is making 3 million and is locked in at an affordable salary for the next 6+ years.
What Conley has to do with it is that you will be paying him around 20 million over 4 years, and if youre fine with that, then I think you should be fine with paying Dragic 17 million a year for 3 years.
We would get 3 players that can be rotation players, 1 that can develop with KP and Grant, for 1 player that will be an expiring contract by the time we realistically have a solid shot at being a great team.
The thread is about finding a trade partner for Melo, and with his NTC, I think Miami happens to be one of the few teams that he would waive his NTC for and that is probably the best package we could get from them. Maybe a 2021 first round pick also.
Go Knicks!

Any / All Melo trades need to include Boston in some shape or form.
3-part plan....
- dump Melo
- dump Phil
- hire Thibs

What exactly has he done, absolutely nothing so his return should get pretty much absolutely nothing. You guys are dreaming if you think you have a shot at landing Blake Griffin. Toronto has a better chance in getting Griffin in a sign and trade for DeRozan. Thats right I just said that. DeRozan with the help of Lowry has led to Toronto being the 2nd best team, meanwhile Melo with a young stud like Porzingis and a quality role player in Afflalo and Lopez have garnered ZERO success.
its the mix of triangle, bad coaches AND having to play 4v5(Calderon) on offense and defense most of the PT
melo isn't bad, the overall situation in knicks is bad, and its not impossible to fix.
nobody would be willing to trade him if not for KP that many believe will be the core player of rebuilding franchise and lack of assets that melo could bring us to go with the KP.
no way melo is garbage, the team overall is thanks to few individuals

If by Boston, you mean their picks, then yes! I just want picks for the rest of my life. For everything and everyone.
Look at the west's top teams - all built through the draft. Each team's top 3 players ? Overwhelming majority are a product of the draft. The east? Mostly trades and FA. So I don't care who it is, but I need all the picks. Boston's got em, so I want em.
I want some homegrown talent that stays with the team foreverrrrrrrrr.
Let's keep going with this "adios, melo" campaign. for the next 3 years.

In a perfect world yes. In the knicks situation we don't have that luxury because Dolan wouldn't do that.
I think we have a couple options. Do you want Phil making the final call or some kinda brain trust surrounded by Dolan (with influences from Isiah, Mills, and or Allan Houston?
Also take into consideration Clearance Gaines Jr wouldn't be around helping us scout and make our selections which has proven to be one of our better assets.

It's kinda funny the one player that Knicks fans still yearn for & fault Melo/Knicks for trading is Gallo but he can't stay healthy for ****.
He JUST had surgery for two torn ligaments in his ankle.
So I mean what really is to bitch at?
Wilson had season ending surgery in November & has looked like a scrub of a role player, Mosgov was easily replaced by Tyson & now Robin Lopez so what is there to really bitch at?
If you just wanted to have all 3 just for the sake of having them I don't believe we could've kept Wilson, Gallo, Mosgov & Melo, I know some did the math years ago.

Yeah I really am not getting it. It's almost like folks can't believe that players on other teams can suck or can be injured or can have underwhelmed. That every player the Knicks get is worse than they are and every player that they trade is better than they are.

correct which I why I don't have faith in Dolan giving full control to a regular everyday GM.
Look at the past 5 guys making decisions?
Layden, Thomas, Walsh, Grunwald, and now Phil.
Phil has been the best of the bunch, which is why I am willing to give him some more time. Just by not making salary cap killing signings and traded away our 1st round picks. Also Dolan doesn't stay out of there business either. Phil has at least got Dolan to not get invovled. If he fires Phil do you think Dolan is just going to hand over the reigns to another GM. I have history on my side of Dolan making poor decisions especially rushing into decisions and forcing trades and such. Let Phil do his just he is only in year 2.
