Izturis doesn't start for the Cubs, and he's been average-to-bad this year defensively in my opinion.

If Guzman doesn't count why do you still have Miguel Tejada ranked.... I slotted both of them in where I thought they belonged.

Plus, I truly think Hanley Ramirez is a better SS than most guys rate him. I go to a few Marlins games every month, so I've seen him play numerous times. I believe he is close to being top in the NL in regards to being a defensive SS.

Ok, I put Izturis on there because he was on the original list and has played more games at short than anyone else on the cubs this yr. He's also been a very good shortstop, GG in 2004, for his entire career. If we're going to rank guys on how they have performed the last 3 months, that's kinda silly considering the whole sample size.

Yikes I just said silly....anyways....

Christian Guzman just sucks in my opinion, and someone ranked him last because he was hurt, so I just decided not to put anyone in there from the Nats because Felipe Lopez isn't all that good either. I also want to rank Edgar Renteria last because I think he is that bad. Got a problem? Sue me.

Wait, so Izturis' Gold Glove makes you dismiss his poor play this year, but Renteria's two Gold Gloves mean nothing? He had an awful year with Boston obviously, but in every other year he's been nowhere near the worst.

You're very misinformed if you think Renteria is a bad SS. It's quite the opposite.

Sorry, I'm a Yankees fan and live in Connecticut. The only thing that sticks out when I think of Renteria is how God Awful of a shortstop he was that one year in Boston. That and that the Red Sox would be a lot better off if they kept OC around after they won in '04. BBall Jesus can help me out with this arguement I'm sure (no stats needed)

hmmm... Michael Young advocates down here would probably have you killed for saying something like that. I don't think thats the case, I think people think he's worse than he actually is because he doesn't really look like a SS, if you know what I mean. Hes real mechanical-like with his movements and you're not always seein him making the diving-deep-into-the-hole-and-throwing-the-runner-out type play but he seems to get it done way more times than not over there.

I think I know why I rated Adam Everett so low: because I don't watch pathetic excuses for NL teams on TV.

So with all due respect: I apologize to Mr. Everett, his entire family, and anyone who was offended by the ranking slot I put him in.

But seriously..... How bad are the Astros this season?

On another note, I've been watching more and more of Tony Pena lately, and I have to say, he might be the closest thing to another Omar Vizquel that we'll ever see in baseball.

The only ones in here that have made any sort of ranking are myself, schwab, gybe and bball jesus. The rest of you are bashing and not giving your own rankings.

Adam Everett is the best defensive SS baseball has seen since Ozzie Smith.

Jeter is all-time bad at short. A-Rod's great range at third has helped him a lot, though, because he can cheat up the middle more. I really don't know why someone didn't convert him to CF when he was in the minors. He has very good speed, just not much in the lateral directioin.

Please with this list.

For someone that watches so many Yankees games youre misinformed. Jeter is the best in the Majors at ranging to his right and going back on pop flys. There is a reason he has won these gold gloves....ya know that one award the players vote on. The players that see him all year, as opposed to fans and media who have biased opinions. Yeah

First off, the players don't vote on the gold gloves. It's voted by the managers and coaches.

Second off, Rafael Palmeiro once won a gold glove while only appearing in 28 games in the field, which tells you something about the importance of the award.

Third off, Jeter does have pretty bad range.

Who still can't vote for players on their own team, and know more about the game than any aportwriter can ever dream of (although Grady Little may upgrade this discussion from a battle to a war)

Thank you Mr. Wikipedia

That's fine, because he's still ranked by everyone in the top 5 here. And a better player the David Eckstein is in his wildest dreams. Derek Jeter actually has nightmares that he was born with David Ecksteins skills. (For the record I'm an Eckstein guy)
