Re: Suns @ magic
What are you guys proposing? We put our young guys out there and they won us a game. If Watson had played tucker, chandler, and mirza as the primary options and we had won off their backs, then yes I understand why you'd be mad. But are we supposed to be mad at our core young players for doing well?? Is McD supposed to tell the team to lose games on purpose? Not even the sixers do that.

Len deserves serious credit for how well he is playing right now. He is averaging 19 and 12 in his last seven games including four straight double-doubles and five double-doubles in his last seven games. Those are all star quality numbers, especially for a center.

This is only half true. The vets played better than usual. Despite Len's greatness, we still had the ability to lose if Price and others played like their usual, terrible selves. And yes, I propose that our coach should be benching vets who get hot. Do it under the guise of "earning a break" or something like that. I'm all for pulling our vets if they become hot from the field or play really well.

Wasn't Orlando a few games back? The Wiz may make the playoffs, but Orlando had little chance. The Bulls and Pistons will be fighting hard. The Bulls have dropped a bit because Butler has been out. Once back it will be a dogfight between those three and Indiana for the last few spots. I don't think Orlando had any shot of surpassing Washington at this point and is pretty clearly out of it.
They were a few games back but far from out of it. They were at .500 since the all-star break, which is a better win rate than a couple of the teams above them. Washington also isn't as good as they've played recently imo. They've had monster games from unusual people, and Kieff has played awful and they've won in spite of him, even though they desperately need his production at the 4. I think Washington could make the playoffs, but I don't see them keeping up the win rate they've played at recently.

Re: Suns @ magic
This is getting out of hand with the purposefully tanking nonsense. The reason the Suns are tanking is because they suck. Watson is not telling players go out there and make sure they lose. The Suns are a horrible team. When Tucker is one of your main players, your team is terrible. If the Suns were good enough to win more games, they would.
Also, the Suns played as hard as they could tonight because they did not want to break the franchise record road losing streak the same way they did not want to break the total losing streak when they beat the Grizzlies. Not to mention, but the Magic are not that good. A 27-34 record in the East means you are not a good team.
Another thing, which would you prefer, the team continue to pile on losses over and over again while the players look bad or see Len go off for a 31 and 15 game and win. I take the latter. Because if you have a center that can put up those kinds of numbers, it means you have something. You got a potential up and coming star center. Sure I want the Suns to get the best pick they can but winning a game every now and then is not a bad thing if it means the players already here are improving well enough to produce a win. And honestly, has the franchise ever had a young 7-1 center capable of having a 31 and 15 game. I do not think so. When your team has a history of centers like the Suns do, a center than can put up a 31 and 15 game is a welcome sign and I am not going to complain that the Suns won the game he put those numbers up in.

I don't think they will, but it is a team that swept Toronto in the playoffs last year, so they have some grit. It likely depends on Beal, who hasn't played well, and if Markieff improves as he gets more accustomed to the team. But I think Chicago will get better, and Detroit will hang as will Indiana, so basically they have to beat out two of those teams, so it's not probable, but still a lot of games left. I can't remember for sure, but it seems like I checked and they have one of the easier schedules left, and if that was so when I checked, getting this Cleveland game behind them will help.
I imagine we are probably looking at 13 or 14th pick, but it also depends on the west team that misses having a better or worse record. If they could finish 10th and the east and behind 9th in the west, we still could get 12th. But it's so tightly jammed in the east and at the 8th seed in the west, if they DO get in, it could get scary fast, and it could get as bad as like 17th. Nothing is separated enough to think anything is certain and who knows what shape Butler will be in when he returns and how well he will play for the Bulls.

Brooklyn won too. No ground lost in lotto race. We are still, and likely will remain, in third.

Brooklyn has won 5 of their last 10
Phoenix has won 5 of their last 37
This is what I've been saying, we really aren't in any danger of dropping to the forth spot.
The outrage of people over winning our 5th game in 37 tries is ridiculous.

Brooklyn got worse at the deadline.

This is how you run a rebuild.
I think Watson will be remembered for a long time if Len and Booker go on to greater things. Honestly I think he's the only person who is 100% committed to it (at the expense of his own record) as he has the most and widest experience in the NBA out of any of our employees and isn't in this Phoenix Suns FO bubble.
I'm happy to win when it's because of our the next All-Star potential rookie talent.
Players like Chandler and Tucker and Teletovic winning us games is completely useless and always has been given we were never going to win a championship in the first 3 years.

Okay, I'm very very pro tank, but some of you have gone overboard. First, we were never catching Philly, and it was very unlikely we were going to catch the Lakers. The fact we're close is a testament to how bad we have been. Brooklyn won't catch us. And bottom three gives us good enough odds, it's all luck anyways. And even then winning the lottery may not end up being all that (oden over Durant anyone?)
It's a win on the backs of young guys.. Can't be mad. How would you guys feel if we passed the Lakers for 2nd worst, then they jumped us on lottery day? Bottom three all have a solid solid chance and its very much a crapshoot

I have alot of respect for Watson. He is putting the long term needs of the team ahead of his own personal record, and maybe even a chance at a job this summer.

I disagree strongly. Coaches cannot be part of the tanking process. Front offices can tank, coaches cannot and should not tank. The reason being, what kind of message does that send to the young guys if you're benching the guys playing well and actively trying to lose? Besides, we don't need the coach to tank, the team is bad enough.

Glad I'm not the only one thinking this. I hope he's back next season. Worst case scenario, he is a good player developer that can't win games, which isn't a bad thing for a team this young.

Brooklyn has won twice as many games as the Suns since the trade deadline and they have no incentive to lose. I think it's a pretty safe bet that the Suns finish with the 3rd worst record.

Ambivalent: [am-biv-uh-luh nt]
adjective
1.
having mixed feelings about someone or something; being unable to choose between two (usually opposing) courses of action:
Your 19 year old rookie shooting guard is your best playmaker/distributor on your team, even though you have 2 PGs making 14 mill.
Your 22 year old center cominig into his own and helping you win games, when you should be losing them.
2.
Psychology. of or relating to the coexistence within an individual of positive and negative feelings toward the same person, object, or action, simultaneously drawing him or her in opposite directions.
Good game, Brooklyn won as well. It was very-very unlikely that we catch the Lakers or Philly.
Hopefully Knight doesnt come back and screw our tank. I can see us catching Brooklyn that way with our schedule.
