Question about The Biz

Biyombo has been a fantastic bench big for the Raps this year. He sets great picks, he knows how to roll to the basket, he plays within himself and overall plays very good defense.

I looked at his stats, and they're basically the same as they were in Charlotte last year, was he the same player in Charlotte? I recall that the fanbase wasn't exactly torn that he was leaving, "slight disappointment" is how I read the vibe here from Biyombo's exit.

If the Raps don't re-sign him I will be super sad.

Nobody? Was he the same player last year or has he improved in some way not shown in the stats?

I checked the stats and you are right, he is much the same player this year as last. Someone else can answer the question in more detail, but last year Biyombo struck me as being very unpolished on the court. His DBPM was actually higher last year, however, and his WS/48 led the team at .156 as opposed to .141 this season.

We have had a bottom 5 offense for years and we have a coach with an excellent defensive system that does not require niche defensive players. We moved on from Biz as a direction change to build a team with more dynamic offense.

We are once again the league's best defensive rebounding team (like we have been ever since Cliff arrived) and we don't value rim protecting bigs as much as we do versatile defenders that can guard multiple positions.

Combine all these factors and it sums to Biz finding a new home. Glad he's doing well and he brings a valuable skillset to the table.

Yeah he's been really good rebounder, defender, and screen setter since 2013. He's pretty much the same player, he just now has a chance to show it to the rest of the league. I'm happy for him, but I'm pretty pissed that we spent four years developing him only to watch him make a big impact for another team.

Many on this board loved Biz for his spirit, energy and effort, his rim protection and rebounding, even when his bad hands and puppylike spasticity made him a liability on offense. Coach Clifford did not seem to trust him, and even began last season playing Jason Maxiell ahead of Biz. Personally, I felt Biz would be great fit at C growing alongside the young core of Kemba, MKG, Zeller, and like you, thought he had great value setting picks and being a rim roller. I was disappointed to see him go.But the team had a lot invested in Al Jefferson, and this summer made a clear choice to upgrade its anemic offense, prioritizing guys who could not only shoot but be versatile playmakers. The style change has worked well, considering the team currently sits in the playoffs. I for one am still disappointed that not only did the team let the high spirited Biz go, but they let a top ten pick walk without recompense. Given the choice, I would want Bismack Biyombo on my team over offensive specialist Al Jeff. Still, its hard to argue the team's improved results. Lots of fans here I think are wishing Biz well in TOR.

i thought it was Hawes who took Biz's spot... Spencer has been solid, but I think Biz would be more valuable with lin, lamb, frank, particularly if the team makes the playoff.....With Biz, a healthy MKG, the Hornets could be a top 5 defense this season...

Lin and Nic could make Biz viable on offensive end, too bad people got no chance to see it...
