I'm hopeful, maybe even wishful, but I'm not expecting anything. An add this late in the season doesn't hold much hope anyway, but one that has serious issues like Lawson has even less. If he turns out to be a decent backup, it's a huge success, methinks.

Yeah I'm hopeful for decent backup as well. I loved him in Denver, though I never felt he was worth what trades of 3-4 years ago on the trade board had us giving up for him typically. But overall I feel like the plan may be more to see if he would be worth investing a couple of years (hopefully cheap and preferably some unguaranteed) in him next offseason.

So I guess the max potential I see here is him fitting in as a 6th man, giving him Stuckey's money for a couple of seasons, trading Stuckey, and signing a max guy like Horford. I'd put that at about less than a 1% chance, but to me that is the best semi-realistic scenario. I just don't see him regaining full form ever really, at least as far as being a legit starting guard. Which kind of means he is a gamble on a similar level to Bynum.

I see him playing with Stuckey not replacing him.

He obviously will this year, but if Lawson works out and Bird wants to resign him in the summer, I don't see how we can keep all 4 of Hill, Ellis, Stuckey, and Lawson. Lawson is an average shooter at best and the whole Hill/Ellis/Stuckey backcourt hasn't been great overall as is.

A draft pick could enter into the calculation.

Ellis could end up being a centerpiece for a trade later. This team has the makeup of a roster that Larry Brown would love in terms of flexibility of guard play. But On another note. Lawson is one year removed from being one of the best point guards in the league. At least top 10. Earlier this year he had some decent games starting in Houston. His wild inconsistency had some to do with James Harden being so ball dominant. And obviously he isnt a spot up guy. He also had some good moments off the bench. But with Harden playing almost 40 minutes of 48 there really wasnt much opportunity for Lawson to playmake (his strength). If given the right opportunity I feel Lawson can still play at a high level. Im not so sure he will be given a fair opportunity with Hill, Ellis and Stuckey. But one thing for sure is that the offense should be improved in terms of having an array of good penetrators to open up 3pt shooters. Also Lawson, Ellis and Stuckey can all finish in traffic. Defending the perimeter will be another story.

I think stuckey and Ellis will both benefit from playing less point.

Ty is in the middle of a very serious fight to get his life in order. I think his issues are more life problem related them actual basketball decline ones. I wish him the best in Indy and it's a shame it did not Workout here in Houston for him.

Am I missing something? It's past the playoff eligibility deadline... does Indy have a backcourt injury they need to band-aid up?

He'd be eligible for the playoffs, as he was a free agent at the waiving deadline for playoff eligibility elsewhere. It doesn't matter when he signs from here on out, just that he would only have been eligible to play for Houston in the playoffs if he was still on the roster past 3/1.

How much are we paying Lawson? I was looking at the traded machine on ESPN and it looks like we picked him up contract and all. If so we'd have him for next season with the non guaranteed contract. That might be a great asset to have for trades this summer. Also if that's the case is there a date that it becomes guarnteed?

To pick up his entire contract we would have had to claim him off waivers, which no one did. We don't have the cap space to do that even if we wanted to. Hoopshype seems to have it right ($265,057). So the vet min for the rest of the season.
